Dear newceliga.org members,

Hi, I'm new. :gap: I currently drive a 96' Monte Carlo, but I do the tuner thing on my Fiancee's 2k Civic. Not impressive, but I learn the ropes. The extent of my knowledge:

- Ultimate Care of 17" Rims (HP Hurricanes, RacingHart C2 knock-offs). We have had them for 7 months now, they get a proper bath atleast twice a week. Once every 3 months I remove the entire rim/tire and scrub, scrub, scrub! Not one scratch, mint condition.

- I personally installed a cold air intake on the car, not to hard, but still interesting to do.

- I also bolted on her cat-back exhaust, another simple feat, but still proud.

Yea I know, lame, but I don't have my own import to tune, so I do the work on hers when I can, its slowly becoming my favorite hobby to clean and do upkeep work on her Civic.

Anyhow, blah blah blah...

Yes I drive a domestic 6-banger, thought admittedly, my Monte Carlo still pushes me back in my seat at 90mph. I've been wanting to get into imports since I was 18 (I am now 21), 3 years of watching, listening, learning, with no hands-on experience. The first car that got me into it was a Honda Del-Sol for sale in my town. Inside the car there was a magazine laying on the dash, I beleive it was "Sport Compact Car" (or Import Tuner, I forget), and I was like...

" WTF is this...? Whoa... "

So I did all that watching, learning, studying. About a year ago I stumbled on this site, and have visited it many times since.

Like I've been around to see Larry's Celica get trashed, and stuff like that.

Anyhow. Out of all the cars I juggle in my mind, which would more or less be:

- 99-00 Civic Si Coupe
- 97-00 Impreza 2.5 RS Sedan
- 97-00 Prelude
- 02 Cavalier (The yellow one with the ground effects package!)
- 00-02 Celica GT (I know I can't afford a GT-S)
- 02 Protege5 (Another yellow car!)
- 99-00 Integra GS-R

....the Celica comes back to haunt me. Obviously (as discussed alot here), it is not the fastest of my choices...but...the bodylines of the Celica just grab me and won't let go.

I plan to buy one, but I am in the proccess of saving the money...

Last time I went to Bourne Toyota (Augusta - GA) with my lovely ZERO CREDIT I'd have to pay HALF down?!

Now I have credit cards I pay every month, but apparently they aren't working fast enough (lol). My Monte Carlo is worth $2500 trade-in, trust me, I've been to every dealership in town.

Ok, so $2500 trade-in isn't enough for my ZERO CREDIT....

So ok, I can easily save up another $2500 in a few months, even though I only make about $1000 a month after taxes, luckily my car is paid off and insurance is taken care of by the parental units, so aside from a cable modem and a computer payment, my monthly bills take maybe 1/10th of my income.

Well low and behold... $5000 TOTAL is not good enough for my ZERO CREDIT....

I have no co-signer, I would have my fiancee but her debt-to-loan-ratio or whatever its called is still to high because of her 2k Civic.

Anyhow sorry for the long winded story, but I'm bored...

...however, mark my words; "I will own a Celica by New Years 2003".

If these dealerships want to be dingleberry's I will show up at thier desk with $7500 cash and a $2500 vehicle, so be it, if thats what it takes, I am at my wits end, I will do it.

I will be realistic however.... I am only shooting for a 2000 GT so I can get the car for $15,000 or less, and keep my insurance down to (hopefully) $200 a month.

My targeted goal is no more than $350 a month on car/insurance.

I am trying my damnest to leave room for aftermarket toys, and that means cash.

Anyhow my goals for my car within the first year are:

- Kamanari Front & Rear w/RMM Sides.\
- Cold Air Intake (Injen or AEM)
- Tanabe Racing Medallion Exhaust System
- RMM Rear Wing w/Carbon Fiber Insert
- 17" or 18" Rims w/Rubber (5Zigen Copse or ADR GT-Sport)
- Drop that sucker with some springs

Not to shabby for 1 year of work, right? Maybe I am overshooting? Sound right? :wtf:

This has been a public service announcement by a very bored indivisual.

you should try to get a used 01 gts.
i wouldn't get a 02 gts anyway because of the limiter.
the gt is still a great car but a gts is nice as hell.
mmmmmm lift

Well unfortunatly, I don't have alot of money, and am working from a zero credit stand-point, the GT is my best option as far as availability with my budget goes.

Though I admit, I seem to see a majority of non-rice hooked up cars are parked infront of above average middle-wage family homes.

Did I miss something, is this a rich person hobby? :ugh:

its a rich person or a person who would rather give up other non-essentials to mod kinda hobby.... like if u wanna get serious... ur gonna have to get used to CRUST toothpaste ... gotta love the knockoffs :gap:

jp btw... if u want it to work and u work hard, then it'll come... dont worry......

Welcome to the board, even though the GT is not the fastest car it is still able to beat many cars out there and look good while doin it. Your choice though.

actually as it stands the GT might even be the better choice if your looking to MOD - theres a bit more support in the way of turbo kits and whatnot, and not havint to mess with lift makes tuning a little easier. And the looks are the same. Mind you trhe stock performace of the GTS makes a lot more difference than a lot of mods on a GT ;) The braking is also awsome.. - heck - do what ya can afford and what is fun for ya - thats the bottom line :)

Welcome to the board.

i'm probably gonna take it back to stock but i'd like to think i could sell it how it is now. if you wanna come look at it or even drive it that could probably be arranged. and PM me about the price if you will.
