For the past month every time I get into my car it squeaks a little so I took it to my mechanic and he said it is the struts making the noise. He said for both the back and front would run about $600-$700 to replace with KYB (Toyota OEM) struts. Is this amount right? Any suggestions on a performance brand to replace with within this same price range?
I mean I pretty much trust the guy but this amount kinda blew me away.

that price sounds about right. u have to think about the price of parts, markup on parts, and then labor. even if he doesnt markup the parts, if there coming from the dealership there gonna cost about $450-$500, unless he has an account with Toyota then he will get them at list price which is about 10-15%over cost.

he may also be including an alignment, especially since our front struts have camber adjustments.

are you on stock struts? get kyb gr2 shocks. they are about 320 on ebay. if you can do it yourself that there's no more cost really... you can rent the strut spring compressor from autozone. they'll charge your credit card and refund you the full amount when you return it. took me less than 5 hours my first time to do lowering springs. you'll probably need new front shock insulators also. or buy the shocks yourself and call around to some mechanic shops to get some price quotes on shock changes.
