[QUOTE=PRESS RELEASE]The new Porsche 911 GT3, which will make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3 2009, is the latest evolution of an iconic sports car. Embodying the essence of more than 23,000 Porsche racing victories, the 911 GT3 is the ultimate integration of driver and car and arrives in the UK this autumn.

In developing the second generation of the Type 997 911 GT3 into the most sporting and dynamic road-going 911 ever with a naturally-aspirated power unit, Porsche has applied a wide range of know-how gained in motor sport. Indeed, this is precisely why the new GT3 is truly impressive not only on the road, but also on the race track.

The 911 GT3 offers an even higher standard above all in two key areas: performance and driving dynamics. The proven six-cylinder naturally aspirated power unit now develops a maximum output of 435 hp (320 kW), up 20 hp over its predecessor. This results first and foremost from an increase in engine capacity by 200cc to 3.8-litres and from improved cylinder head gas flow: now not only the intake, but for the first time also the exhaust camshafts, are adjusted by VarioCam.

A further important point is that, through its upgraded power and performance, the flat six

to be honest, this is a "value" Porsche.

They know their clientele - only the serious people will purchase one (the poseurs get 911 turbo cabriolets for $140,000) - and they're only charging them for the hardware they're providing.

[QUOTE=PRESS RELEASE]Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has refined the DNA of the 911 to what must be the most supreme standard of class and style in the 911 Sport Classic available to a strictly limited number of very special 911 enthusiasts. Creating this unique model, Porsche is bringing back the tradition of exclusive small series built in very small numbers. The 911 Sport Classic will be presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and is limited in production to just 250 cars.

This very special 911 from Porsche Exclusive has been developed over a project period of about three years, with lots of love for detail, catering especially for the most demanding group of genuine aficionados. Porsche Exclusive is Porsche's Specialist Department for the most outstanding customised versions of Porsche cars going beyond even the highest standard of the Company's regular production models.

The unique character of this very special 911 comes out at very first sight in the newly developed double-dome roof. A further highlight of this sports car based on the rear-wheel-drive Carrera S is the wider rear body up by 44 millimetres or 1.73" and the wider track on the rear axle. The striking SportDesign front apron with its unique spoiler lip and the rear spoiler fixed in position like the legendary ducktail on the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 round off the unmistakable look of the 911 Sport Classic. Power comes from Porsche's 3.8-litre with Direct Fuel Injection, increased in this case, also through the introduction of a newly developed resonance intake manifold with six vacuum-controlled switching flaps, by 23 bhp to 408 horsepower for even more outstanding performance.

The 911 Sport Classic comes exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox. PCCB Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes ideally reflecting the sporting character of this exclusive 911, PASM sports suspension lowering the entire car by 20 mm or 0.79", as well as the mechanical rear axle differential and custom-made 19-inch wheels with their rim star painted black all come together to offer a perfect match for the character of this most exclusive car.

The very special, highly sophisticated interior of the 911 Sport Classic bears powerful testimony to one of the core competences of Porsche Exclusive and is characterised by new materials never used before even by Porsche. One example is woven leather made up of smooth leather strips and woven yarn featured on the seat centrepieces of the newly designed adaptive sports seats complete with light-grey piping and on the door panels.

The dashboard including a wide range of inserts and add-on components is finished in Espresso Nature natural leather, providing a distinctive contrast to the exclusive body paint in Sport Classic Grey.

Marking the introduction of this special limited edition model, Porsche Design Driver

so this car is never going to change really right?

The first 356 made 90 hp from a 1.6L air cooled motor and ran on 165 width tires mounted to 5.5 wide 15" wheels.

This car makes near 400 hp from a 3.8L water cooled motor, and ranges from 285s to well over 305s in the rear, on 18s and 19s.

Its evolution, not revolution.

don't say you'll never be able to afford a 911

a good 1999/2000 car can be had for $20,000-$25,000 these days - that's 300 hp, 2900 lbs, and roughly 1g of grip.

a 996 turbo (420 hp, 3400 lbs, AWD and a reflash away from ~500 hp) goes for $45,000.

Keep in mind, people paid $25,000 for a brand new Celica or RSX, and it still costs $25,000 for a new GTI or Genesis Coupe

People still consistently pay $45,000 for a brand new bottom-end 3-series, Buick Lucerne or a bimbo box SUV.

be a vulture - take advantage of depreciation. Its how I've managed to own two Porsches by the age of 28.

I traffic in human body parts.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what job you have. I had a brand new Z4 when I was making $25,000/year. Its all about how you manage your money.

The median American household (combined) income is ~$50,000.

The average American car purchase is $30,000.

A used 996 911 is $25,000. So its actually CHEAPER to get a used 911 than a new Passat or Grand Cherokee.

The 911s I tend to look at are about 3 years old and are twice that price range. It would concern me to buy a 10 year old 911. They aren't the epitome of reliability compared to a Honda or Toyota and they are very expensive to fix if/when something happens, and after 10 years things will start to happen.

I would recommend a new car like a Genesis over a 10 year old Porsche any day, especially if it's your only or main car. I could live with a 10 year old car as a "fun" or second car, most of mine have been at least 10 years old. But they are not driven very much and don't generally require much maintenance due to low use.

Porsches are the longest running, most reliable cars on the road.

80% of all Porsches built are still running and on the road today.

They did muck things up in the late 90s when they made the switch to water cooled, but those kinks have been ironed out.

The air cooled cars (other than the late 70s with the dilevar head studs) are essentially unbreakable.

The body is fully galvanized and zinc coated - it will not rust.

Keep in mind depreciation as well - a 911 will hold its value better than most things out there. Just look at prices for 80s, 90s, and modern 911s. You'll find many older cars fetching a higher price than the newer ones, especially the 993s.

But - I will concede your point - I wouldn't want a 10 year old car as my main transportation either - and my wife won't tolerate it (we have a baby bla bla bla). That's why I make sure I have a conservative daily driver in my stable these days.

New Racing Version for International GT Sport
PRESS RELEASE (http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/19/another-day-another-racing-911-introducing-the-porsche-gt3-r/)
Following the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is entering yet another racing car in the 2010 motorsport season: The 911 GT3 R will be raced in series based on the international FIA GT3 regulations, thus succeeding the 911 GT3 Cup S. The main focus in developing this new model was on even better drivability and even easier handling.

The 911 GT3 R is powered by a four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine delivering maximum output of 480 bhp (353 kW) transmitted to the rear axle by a sequential six-speed dog gearbox.

The starting point in developing the 911 GT3 R weighing just 1,200 kg or 2,646 lb was the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup presented in September for one-make cup racing. Thanks to its increase in engine size by 0.2 litres, the GT3 R offers 30 bhp more than the Cup model. Both cars are based on the extra-wide body of the 911 GT3 RS street-legal sports car.

An anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control and an e-gas with "throttle-blip" function make it much easier to get used to this new GT3 racing car than its predecessor, meaning that the new model is also more appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver.

Flared wheel arches added on to the body both front and rear bear clear testimony to the wider track than on the former model. And like all second-generation versions of the 911, the new 911 GT3 R also comes with striking LED rear light clusters.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R is making its world debut on 14 January 2010 at the Birmingham Motor Show. The car is built by Porsche's Motorsport Department at the Weissach Development Centre and will be delivered to Customer Teams the world over as of spring 2010. The base price of the Porsche 911 GT3 R is 279,000 euros plus local sales tax/VAT.

TechArt GT Street RS
[QUOTE]PRESS RELEASE (http://www.worldcarfans.com/110012024105/techart-gt-street-rs-sets-new-lap-record-at-sachsenring)
Shift down a gear, come to rest - TECHART has organized the turn of the year very differently. After TECHART's full size SUV speed record in the Italian Nardo, the TECHART GT Street RS based on the 911 GT2 broke the former lap record at the Sachsenring race track. High speed, pace, uniqueness - 100 % TECHART.

In the comparison carried out by AutoBild SPORTSCARS, TECHART impressively asserted its superiority over the competitors. Already before the record drive on the 3,671-meter circuit, the TECHART GT Street RS impressed spectators and proved its unique versatility. Apart from the sprinter qualities demonstrated several times, which were once more unheard of (from 0 to 100 km/hh in only 3.5 sec), the sports car displayed another quality that was just as important: A 32,9-meter braking distance at a speed of 100 km/h is looking to find its match. Once again, TECHART's basic principles were confirmed: T

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S
FULL STORY (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/08/porsche-911-turbo-s-unveiled-with-530-hp-of-goodness/)
Porsche AG, Stuttgart, have developed a new top-of-the-range sports car for the customer who will only settle for the very best in terms of power, performance and driving dynamics: the 911 Turbo S. The heart of this most exclusive high-performance athlete is of course a six-cylinder boxer boosted by two exhaust gas turbochargers with variable turbine geometry, with an increase in power over the 911 Turbo by 30 to 530 bhp (390 kW). Maximum torque is a most impressive 700 Newton-metres (516 lb-ft). At the same time this new top model comes as standard with all high-tech components available only as options on the "regular" 911 Turbo.

Despite its significant increase in power and dynamic performance, the new 911 Turbo S, at 11.4 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 24.8 mpg imp), does not consume any more fuel than the Porsche 911 Turbo, making it by far the most efficient sports car in its performance class.

The 911 Turbo S comes exclusively with seven-speed Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) (Porsche's Double-Clutch Gearbox) conveying drive power to Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel drive. Driving safety optimised to an even higher standard is ensured by Dynamic Engine Mounts and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including a mechanical differential lock on the rear axle. In conjunction with Launch Control on the Sport Chrono Package Turbo likewise featured as standard, 911 Turbo S accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reaches 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds

Top speed is 315 km/h or 195 mph. Extra-light and fading-resistant Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) provide the same outstanding performance in terms of stopping power and controlled application of the brakes.

Porsche Announces 911 GT3 R Hybrid (http://rumors.automobilemag.com/6640038/green/porsche-announces-911-gt3-r-hybrid-for-geneva/index.html)
[QUOTE]The Stuttgart, Germany based automaker will use an unconventional approach to its hybrid sports car. Instead of using batteries to store energy, it will use a flywheel that spins at up to 40,000 RPM under deceleration. The kinetic energy generated from the spinning disc will then power a pair of 60-kilowatt electric motors, mounted to the front wheels. The large assembly will sit within the cabin, where the passenger seat once resided. The two motors will provide 8-second bursts of power, supplementing the 480-hp from the 4.0-liter flat-six and helping the Porsche explode out of turns.

The system's primary benefit, Porsche says, is in fuel economy gains. Porsche is going to enter its newest creation in the 24-hour N

2010 Techart 911 Turbo (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/16/geneva-preview-techart-to-debut-911-turbo-turbo-s/)
Absolute performance – no compromises

The new Aerodynamic Kit I emphasizes the Turbo's inner strengths without being excessive or overloaded. The sturdy RIM polyurethane exterior reduces aerodynamic lift on both axles, allowing smoother handling capability at extreme speeds. One striking feature is the front spoiler, with its dynamically-accented air intake valves and seamless integration. As your eyes pass to the side of the vehicle, you notice the airflow-optimizing side sills, which are stretched to make the vehicle seem to sit lower. A small roof spoiler on the Coupe elongates the visual appearance of the roof line. The spoiler profile can generate additional downforce with the extensible rear spoiler. Rounding off the modified back end is the diffuser, which extends the standard skirt downwards. Personalized mirror moldings add yet another sporty accent and enhance the unique TECHART appearance.

The same applies to the TECHART Aerodynamic Kit II. Independent front and rear spoilers optimize mass air flow for improved ventilation of the braking and intercooler systems. TECHART's multifunctional daytime running lights are available for the front spoiler II. It combines daytime running lights, position illumination, sidelights, parking lights, and turn signals in a combined housing that fits seamlessly into the design of the vehicle front. The display brightness of the daytime running lights automatically adjusts to the selected daytime lighting setting. Furthermore, the daytime running lights dim automatically when either of the turning signals is active, in order to improve their visibility.

The high performance look and unmistakable TECHART design are also reflected in the wheel enhancements. Connecting the powerful torque of up to 700 Nm securely to the asphalt are the TECHART Formula light metal wheels, with their modern 5-spoke design. The product range includes TECHART Formula, Formula II, or filigree Formula III alloy-forged wheels in up to 20-inch formats. This classic form guarantees efficient heat diffusion and displays the braking system. For optimum road grip, TECHART recommends Conti Sport Contact 3 or tires of the brand Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.

TECHART GTStreet R based on Porsche 911 Turbo (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/25/geneva-preview-techart-gtstreet-r-and-concept-one-joining-the-p/)
The TECHART GTStreet program has been recognised for years as a success formula with its sights firmly set on dynamics and incorporating racing engineering to create vehicles that stand for pure driving pleasure as well as full on-track capability. The latest example is the GTStreet R based on the 911 Turbo; it is now undergoing its world premiere. Its road performance statistic, 660hp and 860Nm, is highly impressive - developed by the TECHART engineers who are driven by the ambition of not submitting compromises. And just as uncompromising is the vehicle's suitability for everyday use, thanks to its day-driving light and integrated TECHART nose-lift system.

High-End Performance

The impressive performance is primarily down to the TECHART TA 097/T3.1 performance kit, which raises the power of the standard model from 500 to 660 hp. At 4,500rpm, this means that a maximum torque of 860Nm can be transmitted to the permanent four-wheel drive system. TECHART's sport clutch and modifications to the transmission ratio of the standard 6-speed gearbox results in the GTStreet R's sprint performance of 0 to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds. The permanent dynamic propulsion only reaches its limit at 345km/h.

Speedart's BTR-II EVO is a Kitted-Out 650HP Porsche 911... (http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2010/03/geneva-speedart-btr-ii-evo-is-kitted.html)
SpeedART's kit is the second generation of their Bi-Turbo Racer (hence the BTR-II nomenclature), it makes 650-horsepower, and it plays host to an Evolution body kit (that would be the EVO).

First things first: that 150-horse boost in power (and +150 Nm of twist) is a direct result of the new turbos, intercoolers, headers, catalytic converters, an exhaust system, and, of course, all the computer work necessary to make sure the car doesn't spit pretty pieces of its engine all over the Autobahn.

SpeedART claims a 3.2 second rip to 100 km/h (62 mph) and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).

Porsche 911 GT2 RS – Most Powerful, Street Legal Porsche Ever (http://www.autoblog.com/2010/05/11/more-leakage-porsche-911-gt2-rs-shown-to-vips/)
Ultimate 911 extracts 620 ultra-efficient, twin-turbocharged horsepower from 3.6 liters; dramatically improved power-to-weight ratio and increased fuel economy

The latest 911 is the fastest and most powerful road-going sports car ever built in the history of Porsche. With horsepower (hp) up by 90 and weight down by 154 lbs (70 kilograms) in comparison with the previous 911 GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratio of just 4.9 lbs (2.21 kg) per horsepower, by far the best power/weight ratio in its class. These are the ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance sports car with supreme agility and truly blistering performance on the road. Perfectly illustrating Porsche Intelligent Performance, the 2011 GT2 RS achieves a reduction of approximately 5 percent for both fuel consumption and CO2 emission reduction when compared with the previous 911 GT2.

Limited to just 500 units worldwide, the 911 GT2 RS will be available in the U.S. October 2010 and will have a MSRP of $245.000. The GT2 RS is making its world debut at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25th 2010.

Porsche Introduces 2011 911 GT3 RSR (http://rumors.automobilemag.com/6710518/motorsports/porsche-introduces-2011-911-gt3-rsr/index.html)
The latest iteration of the legendary sports car seems to be no exception, as the German automaker recently introduced its new 2011 911 GT3 RSR.

Like its road car siblings, the new top-of-the-line racer is rooted in evolution, not revolution. The exterior bears a considerable resemblance to the 2010 GT3 RSR, but minor tweaks reportedly help reduce understeer. To do this, Porsche increased the front wheels' width from 11 to 12 inches, while reshaping the front lip spoiler to increase downforce. Aerodynamicists also reshaped the rear wing, reshaping the air outlets to help improve engine airflow.

Speaking of the engine, the GT3 RSR continues to use a 4.0-liter flat-six engine, but the 2011 car receives a new engine computer, along with revised intake and exhaust systems. As a result, Porsche was able to eke an extra five ponies from the mill (bringing the total to 455 horsepower), while allowing the GT3 RSR to perform better on a wider variety of fuel grades.

Apart from these minute changes, Porsche designers and engineers have left the 911 GT3 RSR formula untouched. As a result, the race-prepped car carries on with a six-speed sequential manual gearbox, a triple-plate carbon fiber clutch, an adjustable racing suspension, six-piston front brake calipers and four-piston rear calipers, an adjustable rear wing, and a brake balance bar.

If this sounds like the ideal racer to tackle GT3-class events with, give Porsche's Motorsports operations a call. The new 911 GT3 RSR is expected to reach customers later next year, carrying a price of roughly $543,000 in Europe.

2012 Porsche 911 Black Edition (http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car/11q1/2012_porsche_911_black_edition-official_photos_and_info)
The last few variations on the 911—including the GTS and Speedster—were positioned at the top of the model range. The 911 Black Edition follows a vastly different approach: Available as a coupe and cabriolet, it comes only with rear-wheel drive and the standard 345-hp engine. At a base price of $82,250, the Black Edition coupe carries a $3500 premium over the barest of all 911s; the cabrio’s sticker of $92,250 represents a $2500 uptick.

Like the GTS, the Black Edition adds more extra equipment than its additional cost would otherwise cover. Normally a $2440 option, 19-inch Turbo II wheels are included in the purchase. Also on the house are the Bose surround sound and a navigation system, plus a few other trinkets. Altogether, the extras in the Black Edition are worth about $10,000.

^ Not a good design, forces you to hold ''10 and 12''.

actually its perfectly designed for where your hands need to be.

Your thumbs hook over the top of each thingamajiggy, so you're holding it at 9 and 3, exactly where you need to be and should never move from.

Is that car out yet? I saw a car, same exact color scheme as I was leaving the gas station today. Was loud as **** to. It had the GT3 on the side, but no way of knowing what engine it was.

Not sure if its out. But it says 4.0 on the side stickers and the front bumper canards are a dead give away about which model it is.

Video: How a Porsche GT2 RS corners so fast
By Karl Peskett | October 28th, 2011

It’s a formidable machine, the Porsche GT2 RS, and one that produces around 620hp. It can also be a handful to drive.

US publication Motortrend has produced a fantastic video outlining how and why the GT2 RS is able to corner so quickly. Using telemetry and sensors placed on the car, you can see in slow motion the different forces at work, and why some people prefer a rear-mounted engine over a front-mounted one. If you have a few minutes spare, it’s well worth your time to sit down and enjoy great engineering in motion.

I like the slowmo but they dont really go in to detail about how it all works. Their conclusion is you can manipulate the rear end, who would have thought?

the RUF is awesome because they've taken a V8, made it lighter, simpler, and physically more compact than the flat six, oh, and more powerful.

Porsche should be taking notes.

Porsches are bad@$$ and all but for f*** sake we're all the way in the future now, so why do people keep shilling out 100-200k+ for a 'race car' that looks like what their grampa could of had?

Because it works? Why change something that isn't broken?
