View Full Version : How can I get rid of these small indentations/fisheyes?

So after nearly four years of having my sunvisors out I decided it was time to accept defeat and settled for the Duplicolor Vinyl & Fabric Flat Black spray paint as the closest match to the 03+ interior color.

The fabric portions (most of the sunvisors) are going to be dyed so these were taped off and then I prepped the plastic pieces for paint. Basically I have these small holes in the paint on one sunvisor and it seems like it was caused by sanding the paint before it was dry. :shrugs: I was sanding with 600 grit because I over-sprayed a small area. I tried the same grit to get rid of the indentations, that didn't work, I got frustrated so I then tried 200 grit cause I was pist and didn't have anything softer. Anyways, that made it worse (indentations are all over now) and it's current condition is pictured below. How should I go about removing the small indentations? I think the paint should be dry enough to move gradually along the sandpaper grit scale.

are those the plastice mirror covers on the sunvisors?

to get rid of them youll have to resand the pieces then repaint em.

Yup, just one visor though. Any particular grit(s) I should use?

dents were caused by oil or dirt being on your visor when you tried to paint it sooooo.

wet sand with your 200 till you get rid of your dents. then go back with your 600 till you get it to your liking. then use rubbing alcohol to clean it. then paint again once alcohol is dry.
hope that helps, this happened to me when i painted my dash about a year ago

^200 grit is a to rough to start with to get rid of the bumps, useing 200 will take it all the way back to the plastic.

i would say start with 800 or 600 grit and wetsand it till its completely smooth then clean it with rubbing alcohol, let dry then repaint it. if you want it nice and shinny add a few coats of color, wetsand it with 1500 grit, add another coat, wetsand with 2500 grit then clear coat it.

If they don't go away after another sanding round, use filling putty, sand with med-high grit paper and paint.

work with 400 wet and then use the putty if they dont go away.

do you have the plastic covers removed from the visors so you can at least spray and clean them without worry?

alright, thanks guys. I'll give the 400 wet a shot and hopefully I won't have to use filling putty. Nah dude, the plastic covers are still attached but everything is taped off extremely well so not too much to worry about there.

yup 400 to 600, and make sure it is CLEAN from any oil n such (armor-all is your worst enemy with paint!).

ammonia is a very good cleaner for this.
