Hi,

I've been working on a salvaged scion tc that was in a front collision. The body shop wasn't able to figure out the problem with the braking issues. Looks like the bodyshop replaced the master cylinder because was damaged in the accident, the brake booster seemed to be the original and was damaged from the accident. When pressing on the brake peda I could hear an air leak. I figured out it was the brake booster. I bought one of kragen autoparts and put it on. Same air leak again when pressing the brake pedal and the car still wouldn't stop quickly and easily.

Luckily the brake booster had life time warranty, so i returned it and got a new one. This second brake booster worked perfectly after bleeding the system, no air leaks when pressing brake pedal and car actually braked easily and quickly, but that's only for about 2 or 3 miles. Slowly the brakes started locking and locking to the point where the car wont move freely. Its like if I started stepping on the brake pedal and slowly press on it slowly till the brakes locked and the engine cant handle moving the car anymore. If I shut off the car for a few hours and then go back to it, the brake will go back to normal. Again the car moves freely and slowly the brakes start locking again. At once point when all the calipers were lock, I went to each calipers bleeding bolts and let out a lil bit of brake fluid out. The car was free again for another 2 to 3 miles and locked again. I know all calipers are locking because tested it once at night and all rotors were glowing red from overheating since I drove it back home forced like I was holding brake pedal and flooring the gas pedal.

Then I tried disconnecting the vacuum hose from engine that goes to the booster and drive it like that. 2 or 3 miles later ended locking up this way too. When the car was first brought to me it had the leaky booster and was really difficult to stop the car with a lot of leg force, but never locked up this way.

So could it be that this 2nd brake booster I received from the autoparts also defective, or the master cylinder or even the ABS need replacing? Or could it be something simple I'm skipping?

Thanks

Ron

master cylinder.. I don't know what the body shop put in for a master cylinder but lockups are a classic MC problem, try removing it, bench bleeding, and after filling, bleed your ABS.
