Hi Everyone,
I've been following this site for a while as a guest and it really helped me with my n/a build but now I have decided to go turbo. The thing is I have purchased all the necessities. Apexi pfc is on the way, I already have neukin manifold, gt28rs, fmic, 255lph fuel pump, 630cc injectors, hks ssq bov etc...i've decided to stay with the stock rods but my problem lies with pistons.
From reading the forums the bores need to be measured to see if they are in spec to fit the mahles but this can only be done when the head is off. This may seem like a wierd question but I already had the mahle 12.3:1 pistons in my block for about 9 months for my n/a build...does this mean I can assume the 9.0:1s will fit as well? Are they basically the same diameter etc? I really don't want to buy the mahles then realize they are not going to work and I could have bought the wisecos and sleeved from the beginning plus my car is a dd.

you have been running the 12.3 pistons for 9 months? well in theory you might be ok. but again just to be safe check the bores. its all coming apart anyways. if there is any scouring on the walls then i suggest sleeve and go wiseco. so dont buy the pistons untill you get in the block

wow...that is pretty steep sillycar I don't know how much it would be to sleeve here but if i need to I was thinking of getting a block ready sleeved from MWR. Yeah smaay I have had a full n/a build for about that period of time...mahles, piper stage 2 cams, mwr flat faced valves, titanium retainers, mwr valve springs etc. the pistons will be the last things i get then

^^^ you obviously dont seem to listen, it would have been better if you would of measured the block before buying anything.

Well guys I went ahead and got the 9.0:1 Mahles. I am hoping they fit...in theory they should if not I will sleeve.
You need to read what I said before youngxlos you can still sleeve with Mahles. As smaay said it is still coming apart and if the Mahles can fit then why not use them...I can afford to take the risk

again your not thinking, if your going to sleeve the best option would be wisecos.
its your money do what you wish with it.

This is true but as I said there is nothing wrong with using the Mahles
its your money do what you wish with it
Once again this is true...thanks for your input

Yeah ~ If sleeves better go for wiseco... more lighter than mahle...
But..this owner plan to go 9.1cr... wiseco just have either 8:8.1 or 10.5cr dont have 9.1cr... So..he dont have other choice ~:p: go for MAHLE PISTON

That is another reason for the Mahles I don't want below 9:1 and I don't want to run higher compression because it would limit my boost. Hope your progress goes well sillycar

actually i think MWR can get wisecos in any CR you want now

That would have been great if I knew that a bit before but that would mean sleeving and I just am not too trusting of the people that do that work here where I live.

Correct. We keep a good variety on the shelf but custom is available. 4-5 week wait for custom.

Guys just to let everyone know...the 9.0 mahles fit perfectly. The upgraded rod bearings have been installed as well as the arp bolts and cwks oil pump gear.
The intercooler has been fitted just have to get the turbo installed, intercooler piping and exhaust done. Pics soon to come...oh i also realized one of my rods had a slight bend. The piston itself isn't damaged but I found it strange...everything else was ok

I love the look of those runX. I wish we had them up here. Also your pretty lucky the PFC works on them. Are your ECM pinouts different then the celica?
Also one other question, what are the tolerances for piston to wall clearance for Mahles pistons to be a direct drop in?
bajan_speed
04-22-2010, 05:51 AM
Actually the pfc works but with some issues like no a/c the engine fan didn't work and some other minor things. The pinouts are different than the celica so I had to have an adapter harness made now every thing works. I got it from SuperDave he is a member on here.
The tolerances I got from the instructions in the box as well as on this site. I can't remember the thread or exact numbers and I don't want to tell you the wrong thing
