now i have done my centre console with red led's to match the red optronic dash and swappped my dome and map lights out for led's i want to install some ambient lighting. i want to hook some bright(ish) red led's to the dome light wiring for entering the car and as i already use the red led map lights (very dim) as ambient lighting i want to add some more ambient lighting to the map light wiring - again very dim for use when driving.

what should i use in both situations and if you have pics (in red) that would be sound - any location tips to achieve different lighting would be good too.....

i think ambient light refers to any outside light such as sunlight coming hroughwindows or overhead room light.

i wasnt asking what your definition of ambient lighting was - you cant even spell your own countries name.

Do you have pictures of your current setup...? Curious to see what it looks like so far...I think ambient lighting would work best along the door area...you know...perhaps wedged in those slots on the doors (where one usually stores maps and what not)...best not to put it up high as it may cause a distraction or glare issues against the windshield, even if it's soft lighting.

ambient lighting is the general lighting that you find in most rooms. It usually consists of overhead lighting and will give a broad illumination to the whole room.

go away - your input is not productive. i wouldnt mind but your definitions are incorrect. i'm not here to debate the differences in the English language - please look in the Oxford ENGLISH dictionary, you may learn something :jerkoff:

back on topic.............

Try putting strip lights in your door pockets, light coming up from the door but won't be to distracting while driving, power can be run of head unit, and wiring follows the same grommet the speaker cables go through.

i like the idea of putting in the door cards but i was thinking of doing that in the rear but using the cup holders. i plan on installing some bright footwell lighting to work in conjuction with the dome light for entry then hooking the ambient to the map lights which i use when chilled driving. we use red ambient lighting in our big rigs for night driving and the effect is good but the are installed in the roof lining.

what strips do people recommend? seems a lot to choose from with vast differences in price..................

Ambient lighting is....j/k:gap:

Yeah def. go with the footwell lights and also check out Lilmexicanboi's thread on the door puddle lighting. Possibly wire the LED strips up so that when a door is open, the corresponding light will light up too. I like the cupholder's idea. Maybe to match with the driver and passenger footwells, you can place led strips underneath the seats as well, that way you can light up the rear passenger floors as well. Try this site: www.oznium.com

Hope this helps you out man and good luck! Post up some pics of your current set-up!

^^ thanks for the input - i'm not too keen on the leds in the sides of the door cards. i've seen the threads on the bright footwell set-up's which is what i intend to run for when you enter the car running them from the dome light switch. i think i've got a few ideas to go with mine now - just need to test.

my current set-up, nothing special - just swapped out dome and map lights to red leds and swapped the green capped centre console lights to red leds. headunit is next as the stock is still illuninated green - swapping out for a d din kenwood. the green illumination will go when i fit the start button. i just need to sort some of the white illumination on the mirror controls and trc button as well as the window controls. got them out at the moment - one is easy and the rest look a mare! i'll get some pics up.....
