Heheh...

Yesterday, I spent a few short hours, ripping out my entire rear of my hatchback. I have no seats, and none of the side plastics.

I also FINALLY installed my TRD Rear Strut Bar, which I've had for over a year and a half, just sitting in my closet. LOL.

Either way, I was wondering what you guys would think of a Celica with a custom black carpeted interior from the front seats back?

I'm getting the carpet installed later this week at Auto Specialty in Tacoma.

So my car will pretty much be a 2-seater for the rest of it's life.... :D

One really cool thing I've noticed though, is that the acoustics in the car have changed. The stock stereo sounds REALLY good now...much better than before...even my wife noticed. Weird.

Oh, and for those who say it doesn't help performance wise, I'll have to differ. As soon as I took that baby to the auto hobby shop to install the strut bar, I could already tell that the thing felt faster, much faster and easier to take through corners.

It won't feel as fast once I put the rear plastics and that carpet in, but I think it'll look great.

What'cha think guys? I know it sounds crazy, but I like the way it looks and I have room. My car doesn't feel so "stuffy" now.

Sounds OK but you're the one who needs to be happy with it. :)

I took out my back seats to put subs in there and I weighed the seats, plastics, spare and all and it was less than 75 lbs. I think you're just imagining it being faster. That little of a change in weight shouldn't do much.

But the stereo in mine sounds better with them out too!! :D

Ah..it's not really that it was faster or anything, I suppose.

It just felt like it was easier to throw around or something. I dunno...my butt dyno just went off.

Er...excuse me.

Anyways, I imagine that was mostly because of the strut bar finally getting installed. I'll take pix of it when it's complete.

I want to have my car carpeted and tinted before I head down Thunderhill Raceway on the 8th.

Thanks for the comments. Oh..and it wasn't that loud. I have my stereo up so high, that it doesn't really matter...heheh. :D

The carpet and sound deadening will take care of the loudness once it's installed. I imagine my car will be quieter than it was before and weigh about the same before I removed the seats. We'll see.

Oh...screw the insurance, lol. It's still a 2+2 seater...umm..from the factory that is..heh.

I've had my rear seats out for over a year now. I just recently put my rear interior panels back in. I'm planning on just making a flat floor in the back (along with my MP3 player) similar to the Matrix with its seats folded down.

Someone here said that losing 14lbs of weight would net you a 1lbs gain. More like you'll feel a 1hp gain, do the math 75/14 and its like 5.+hp gain.

Apparently the power inverter I have is powerful enough to handle the screen, VCR, and camera at the same time. It shouldn't have any problem with just a dvd player and screen.

My final obstacle is to make a lightweight housing in the back for the internals of the DVD player. I've got some ideas, but it's just too hot right now to mess with stuff like that.

If people go as far as buying expensive carbon fiber hoods and lexan windows to save weight, then saving 75 lbs by removing the backseats isn't too shabby.

I know that the traditional gain at the drag strip is .1 seconds for every 100 lbs. So by removing 500 lbs you would gain 1/2 a second in your 1/4 mile times without changing anything else. So also----- by removing 75 lbs you would gain .075 (approximately of course) in the 1/4 mile times. Of course there are some other gains in other areas since the celica is not a "drag race car" in general, it has much more to offer than just drag racing.
