I posted in here a few weeks ago about how long it took maroone toyota to fix my engine even tho it was their fault it blew up.
I have had the car back about two weeks now and last night i was driving home on I95 when i noticved it was making a wierd CLANKING sound. I let off the gas and it sounded like the teath of 2 gears not fully engaging..that metal on metal scraping sound u would get if u did that. i was thinking to myself "that does not sound good at all!", and i moved to the slow lane and was about to get off at Commercial blvd when BOOM!!! i HEARD something come loose and i heard parts flying out from under my car and it sounded like metal peaces comming out my exhaust system along with (white)smoke from the engine bay. The car immeditely died of course and i coasted to the energency lane where i poped the hood but it was too dark to tell exactly where the some was comming from other than the engine of course.
I will admit i think a single tear came from my eye when this happened. I feel the same way about my celica as all you guys do...i love it and i hate to see her in bad shape.
Anyways back to my story, o yea! i checked the oil and it was completely BONE dry...AGAIN! but this time i KNOW there was oil in it because i changed it myself just over 1 week. yes i changed it LAST SUNDAY!!! and there was nothing it it..at all....BONE dry...i have been chaning oil for along time up until the point i got this car and only reason i stopped is cause im gettin lazy but how does the engine burn up every drop of oil? there are no leaks and the oil light was not on. The temp gauge was also reading normal and up until that point i did not notice any strange sounds or vibrations. It pisses me off that toyota had my car for 3 weeks and this happens 2 weeks after i get it back. Serious stuff as someone could of been hurt ya know?..
Plus the fact they are going to have it forever just fixing THEIR MISTAKES...2x in a row...comments and questions welcome

sigh
(i miss my car)
sorry but i have to vent!...arggg!!!!!! god damn toyota!!!!

I'm mildly curious as to why you would change the oil one week after getting it back from a total engine rebuild. Did you remember to put the drain plug in correctly?

Good question....I would suggest not telling them that you changed your oil...even if you did nothing wrong...(which is proabably the case) they might try to blame you..

I changed the Oil cause i didn't trust maroone to do it. Last time they forgot to put any oil back in it hich is what caused all the problems to begin with. Im about to make a few complaints also and yea i put the cap back on as there was no oil leaking in the driveway...Maroone toyota sucks dont noone ever goto 1 unless u want them to mess up your car like they did mine. twice

I'm assuming the engine was initially overreved so...

Scenario:
1. Engine wrecked
2. Maroon rebuilt the engine and didn't check the mechanical oil pump (which was most likely damaged from the overrev)
3. Engine was working well
4. No oil pressure (did you notice this?) possible
5. Kaboom. Possibly blown out bottom end.

(This is what happened to me, luckily Colonial toyota's finest forgot to check if there was any oil pressure before they pawned their Frankenstein rebuilt to me as new....

He said that it was the dealership's fault that the engine blew up. I think that means he didn't overrev, unless a dealership person mis-shifted.

His origianl problem was that engine seized. The dealership never filled the car back up with oil. He drove it and the rest his history.

How long after you owned it did it seize??
I think I have the record. 8 days!! Honestly, did you overrev it before it seized? Just wondering if it was enough to kill your oil pump. This is what happened in mine (I'm assuming somebody took the car out for a "demo" at the dealership before I bought it). I wasn't even out of the "baby" the car 1000 mile break in before mine went. Nothing like hearing $25k worth of grinding metal a week after I signed myself away for XXXXX thousands...

He had no oil in the engine. Therefore the oil pump couldn't pump. The whole thing is they did an oil change, but forgot to put the oil in. Dealer is 100% in the fault.

Not to be too picky here but you didn't trust them to put oil in but you waited a week to put it in yourself? Wouldn't it be easier just to check the dipstick?

"MAROONE"
That name says it all...(Like Bugs Bunny) :chuckles:

After rereading your story I'm even more confused. You lost approx. 5 quarts of oil in 1 week, yet you had no leaks and weren't burning it. I'm certainly no expert but that would seem to be highly unlikely. It has to come out one way or the other and that amount in that period of time would be noticible?

Note to CSteckel, he did not overrev, they dealer did not put oil in which destroyed the first motor. They also listed the pump as being replaced anyway.

Got it!
If that is the case, you have a good case for getting a new ride on toyota, although the whole dispute is with the actual dealership. Good luck with this one.

Just Ask for a new motor. They are supposed to replace if fixing it once doesn't work.

Just a point of interest - I have seen cars consume as much as 2 or 3 quarts of oil in 1000 miles with no visible signs of smoke. It was going past the rings and getting burned for the most part. Between combustion and the cat the oil was cleared up and there was no smoke.

That maybe true, although I've never seen it but here we are talking almost 5 in a week and I'll bet not close to 1k miles.

I live in SoFla too. I use Lipton Toyota on Oakland Park for all of my service. Next time you have a problem, give 'em a try. My check engine light came on at around 30k. They ended up calling a tech from the distribution center down to fix it, but they were excellent the whole time they had the car. They even threw in a couple of free oil changes, a set of wheel locks, and a detail since they had to keep the car for a week. When I had the sunroof cover replaced, the service manager gave me his personal vehicle to drive for the day. That was cool because they weren't required to give me anything since they didn't keep the car overnight.

I was living in Plantation FL. last year and when I wen to Maroone to try and get the TRD oil filter they looked at me like I was stupid. Since there are NOT any Advance Auto Parts stores at all in South FL for me to buy a K&N oil filter I had to go to Lipton and when I got my car back from them doing the oil change the tech that did it had finger prints and oil all over the Engine bay and hood. I told the service manager that they needed to fire the dumb ars that did it. I even went to the one on A1 up near Pompino Beach area too and they were mager butts when they looked at my car and they would not touch it. I was like wtf. The said that do to my cai and exhaust and so on that if they touched it and something happened they would not be held liabl for any damage. I only went there for a simple oil change. And they wanted me to leave my car for the day. I personally do not like the Toyota dealers at all in South Florida.

Samething at Melody Toyota in San Bruno, CA. Their service center do not work on lowered or "modified" cars. The stupid thing is that they are a authorize TRD center that cells trd parts like LOWERING SPRINGS........
