Hey guys, just wanted to pass along the good news. In a letter to the editor in the August Car and Driver there is a reply to a letter written by I think one of our own members (the author mentions www.newcelica.org) that is very informative and confirms everything we've known/suspected. It says that the original 2000-2001 fuel cutoff was in fact 8,350 while the 2002 was 7,900 (U.S. spec, not in Japan) for some unexplained reason. However, due to pressure (from you guys?) on Toyota USA, they have pushed for and gotten back the 8,350 RPM cutoff for 2003. WOO HOO!!! This is great news and will put the Celi back on top of the budget import scene. I'll post the whole reply when I get home if no one beats me to it.

Sorry to hit on an old topic. Guess I don't come here enough. Still, it's the first time I've seen it in print and from official sources.

You can safely rev this engine to 8400 k rpm. The Japanese and Euro Celica's have the exact same motor and rev limit at around 8600/8700.

There's a fix for the 02 rev limiter. Someone on this site did it, others have tried it and it works. Do a search on knock sensor if you want to know more about it. Hope this helps.

The Fact that toyota put the old rev limiter back makes any statement they used to cover ther ass about the 2002 rev-limiter null and void. This reversion to the 8350RPM limiter probably makes any one with a 2002 who wanted a regular rev limiter pretty sore. I, for one, am kinda disapointed that toyota hasn't handeled this little 2002 foul-up any better.
