Ok, i was messing around at trenz yesterday, and i ended up talking to another customer about cars. he drives a Civic HB w/ a GSR engine in it. anyways, he was talking to me about a new shop that he's in the proceess of creating. This is how it works: unlike normal tuning shops, he's not going to be selling just parts. You go in, tell him what kind of car you want, and what features you want on it. (mileage, color, options, etc) I guess he is getting together with some of the dealerships in denver to purchase cars that have just come off their leases, since they are in such abundance, he can get them pretty cheap. You tell him what mods you want, anything that is out. They go pick up the car, install the mods, and INCLUDE THE COST OF THE MODS IN THE LOAN! He also said he MAY be able to do re-financing on the cars, so if you want more mods at a later date, you can just re-finance w/ the cost of the new mods. No worrying about the previous owner f*cking up the car w/ improperly installed mods. No more having to slowly save your money, getting one mod at a time. So for the price of a new car, you can get a used one w/ 30-40K miles, and a sh*t load of mods. Sounds like a very good idea to me, what do you guys think? Remember, this is some dude off the street, i have no idea if he's b*llsh*tting me or not.

That's a hell of a good idea. Tell him to expand into Central Ohio :D I don't care if his first shop is open yet...hehe

then you'll prolly be financing a pretty expensive car... unless you just want altezzas

how do you figure that jotan? a car loses almost half its value in the first three years....thats like 10grand....thats a LOT of mods. plus you would save in installation charges cause they'd be doing everything at once.

I'd rather do the work myself (as much as I can)....
but thats me, I'm sure if he can get the idea off the ground, he will have a pretty good shop on his hands.

So now I'm buying a car through someone else, and it's already modded. Where's my warrenty???

ya beat me to the question Dfess, many aftermarket companies only warranty they're products for a year or so. but what about a warranty on the whole car??

I honestly don't know, i assume it would be the same as if you had modded it yourself. no manufacturer warranty on the parts that were modded. besides, we're not talking a new car here, we're talking used. you can get a warranty seperately to cover everything, but not through the car manufactuer.

Another thing you all are forgetting to think about is where you are getting the money.

Banks.

Banks don't care about modifications to the car, they only care about tangible parts, meaning that if the car used and the KBB is only 15K for it, thats all the bank is gonna give regardless of mods. Just my 2 copper coins

a question about this is how would you get financed for this.. most financing companies will go up to 100% of the NADA value which wont include $$ for mods..

i don't know honestly, all he said was that financing would be done through the shop. I assumed he knew what he was talking about. perhaps he has some deal with a financing company? Regardless, why does a bank care if your spending more on the car than what its technically worth, the more money you loan, the better for the bank, right?

Also the more money they loan the mor they are out when a person doesn't pay. Also I don't think the cars would be as cheap as you guys think they would be. There will be a lot of hidden costs added on to that final price. Installation, mark ups on the mods, etc. I still like the idea of the shop, have actually thought about it before with som slightly different ideas, but it would be difficult to put toghether well.

how much $ have most people spent on their car? 1500 rims, +1300 i/e/h +1000 suspension +1500 body kit +2000 lsd/clutch/flywheel = ~7K for most of the major mods. my car is worth 13K after the 3 year lease is up. so if they sell the car for 22K they're still making 2G's in profit. i'm sure you'll end up paying more than the mods+car are worth...but i think it would be worth it to have everything on the car from day one.

I dunno about that B....

I think that I am VERY pleased that I have had to work my car up. I guess I get bored easily...and if my car had all that to start with, then I'd have to buy a whole new car in a matter of a year or two!!

At least when you get your car from scratch, if you get bored with how fast it is, or with how it handles, you can mod it and make it like driving a "new" car.

I'd imagine for lots of folks, they just want it all now...and even though I SAY that's what I want...I think I personally am better off being able to slowly and steadily turn my car into a super-freak.

I agree with silvereclipse. I think it feels like more to slowly do the mods.

My2kToy- I'm not saying some people would love the idea. I already said that I had thought about it myself. You also have to think about how much extra you would be paying by financing on the car. An extra $7,000 is going to add a lot to someones monthly payments.

Auto loans can be refinanced and you can add onto it to get more money. I had to do this to pay for a semester of college last year. It sucks because i'm stuck paying it on my loan but it is one way to get money for mods if you really wanted to do ti.

Lenders don't care about mods....they look up the car and give it a value, and that's all you'll get for a loan.....of course you could put down extra money on it, but don't count on a bank giving you more than the car can be sold for wholesale....as already mentioned they will only loan what the car is worth, so that if you do not pay, they can repossess it and get their money back

actually, there is already a shop here in cali that does that..they have a website but i forgot what it was..=( but they deal with mainly used bmw's, benz's, audi's, and other high end cars..its actually a good idea...but it kinda takes away from the fun of building a car piece by piece, and the feeling u get when u finally finish a project.
