This is off topic and good luck by the way. Not many people do photography full time.

I've heard it's hard to earn a lot as a photographer. The most money you'll get is either by being a portrait photographer at Walmart, or by doing weddings ($$$$) and being good at it. ;) Beyond that, pay usually isn't enough to support yourself as a primary career.

every retard with a digital SLR is a "photographer" now - that's a dying industry.

I don't do it full time but I do charge on the side for portraits and such.

But true, it is very hard to do photography as a career. I went to a couple seminars and learned a lot. As a newspaper photographer, it's all about who gets the better shot and who gets the shot in first to the newspaper. As a magazine photographer, you need to have connections first to get in and then be really good at what you do. As a portrait photograher... well there are so many now a days, anyone with a camera and a couple flashes can make families happy. Wedding photographers are probably the people that make a decent amount a lot of the times besides magazine photographers but then again, you have to be good at what you do as well as charge the right amount. Event and sports photographers are very competitive too, it's all about the right shot at the right time.
