so this is the best way i can explain this, my car has done this a few times before but does it alot more since its been real cold outside. after starting in cold the car revs up to about 2 grand and drops back to about 1 grand and keeps goin up and down like that for a while. it kinda makes a vroom bummff, vroom bumff sound if you get what im saying lol. so what causes this? i have a cold air intake and thought that could be why, so i took the bottom half off so it wouldnt get as cold of air, plus to stop snow from gettin on the filter. but it still idles like that. not sure if that hurts anything either?
any input would be great thanks.

My Dodge Durango (Magnum V8) does that too.....been wondering on it myself. Maybe its a common thing in cars (common issue or fix )

Mine kind of does it. On really cold days it revs up higher than usual after crank. It reved up to about 3 rpm I was like WTF lol Than it dropped to like 1 and vent to 1,8. It's always idle at about 1,8 on cold engine, but it moves around more on very cold days.
I have vacuum leak, bad cat, and toasted spark plugs on bone stock engine btw :)

mine is worse. i dies at cold start regularly. in extreme cold temp it idles to about 2k, then drops and dies. i gotta constantly tap the gas peddle to keep it alive. after 2 minutes or so itll idle to 800 and stay there. freakin pain in the ass. plus my heater just died! ****!!
Idle hunting. Clean the IACV and MAF for starters. Reset the ECU & force it to re-learn the idle.
With drastic change in temps.... .from summer to winter..... the ECU has to relearn fuel trims, idle settings, etc.

are you running 91 octane? i had a ford probe in the past that I had the same problem with, and then i put in 91 octane and it stopped the problem. just a thought
