I think that my O2 sensor is going bad. I just looked up the price of the part and it's freaking expensive. So I was wondering if anyone knew how hard it would be to change it myself. I don't mind paying for the part but I don't want Toyota to charge me another $70 just to change it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Out of curiosity why do you think your O2 sensor is bad?

For Griffin about 6 months ago I started getting a CEL with an error of P0171 (Too Lean in Bank 1, Sensor 1). So I had the laptop hooked up and I asked Toyota about it. They said that since I had a CAI on there is was probably sucking in to much air and they wouldn't fix it. So I took out the CAI and put the stock air box back in. Everything was fine after that until this past Friday night. While driving to the track the CEL came on again. I hooked the laptop up and it was the same error. So I checked the documents in this forum and it said that it could be air induction system (Stock), Fuel Injectors (Cleaned them with a bottle of FI cleaner), or the O2 Sensor. That and from talking to a friend about it and he said that if everything else is good then it could very well be the O2 sensor. So that's the story.

And GTS Laid thanks for that link. That should help out if I decide to do this myself.

Just FYI - P0171 is almost never an O2 sensor. Its 90 - 95% intake related and teh other 5-10% is fuel. As its a constant issue I'd say your MAF has probably become contaminated. Can you read the Datastream with your laptop? If you can turn off your A/C and check the Mass Air Flow at like idle and 2500 RPM. You should see 1 to 2 grams per second at idle and 7 to 8 at 2500 RPM. If you see less that indicates either a MAF problem or an intake (vacuum) leak. You might wand to check your MAF and clean it if its dirty.
