so i have a set of d2 coilovers and right now i kept the keeper springs on the fronts, the small springs that just hold up the main springs when its not compressed. the front bounces a bit when i hit bumps and i was told if i take these off and raise the perch up it will stop the shock from being compressed so much and will be able to work better. does this make sense, removing the keepr spring and reducing the bouncyness.

The helper springs are of extremely soft spring rate. With the car's weight on it, it should completely crush. So basically they're acting as some sort of spacer when the vehicle's weight is on it.

I don't think the helper springs are the cause for the bounciness. Perhaps your front is bottoming out or maybe the struts are blown.

i took them off and the ride is extremely better, i think its cuz the shock was bottomed out since it compresses alot more when the weight of the car was on the keeper spring. so i took it out and moved up the perch and the shock can do its job now and no more bounciness

How much did you move the perch up? Is your wheel gap still the same?

no i raised the car up a little bit too at the same time since its winter now, but i can lower it more and then the main spring would be loose when the car is up on jacks

So you have more wheel gap now than before?

If that's the case, you must have been bottoming out before.

yea i do have a bit more and i mustve been bottomed out and thats why it was such a bad ride

did you hear a loud noise when you go over bumps? That would be the only sign of bottoming out... a bouncy car is a bad shock. go drive over some speed bumps and see how your car reacts. if it's still bouncy or it bottoms out, your shocks are blown.

It doesn't always have to make a loud noise when you bottom out. Sometimes for a slightly smaller bump only the bumpstop hits, not the metal piece at the end so it makes only a squishy noise.

i didnt hear any loud noises, but it doesnt bounce at all now its a ten times better ride quality. but my coilovers dont have rubber bump stops on them either. i just think the shock was too compressed to work well so when i raised it up it gave it more room to work.
