i wouldnt force her to get the celica, let her get what she wants. remember the Spec V is the same price as a GT but has almost the same HP as the GTS, personally if my g/f was looking at both for that ammount of $$, I would go with the Spec V, its more for the $$

i've seen girls go crazy over trying to get a celi... but never a sentra....
very strange that ur girl wants the spec V... u already have a celi... just let her do whatever she wants... imagine her at a spec V forum....
i want a spec V but my boyfriend wants me to get a celica!.. what should i do?!?
IMO just let her do whatever she wants.... chances are that even if it ends up a worse buy, she'll love it to death anyway cuz that's the car she wanted all along.
test drive first tho.... actually test drive many many times...

I love my celica but if I had to do it now I'd get the spec V, The Celica is very impracticle for me that is, I need 4 doors and room for 4-5 people because I drive alot and I normally drive when I go out with friends, I wish that wasn't the case for me but if your G/F isn't in the situation I am where she is always driving more then 1-2 people at a time then tell her to get the celica but if she needs room in the car go for the spec V

jr..seems like a lot more people like spec v babe..doesnt really matter to me though i like both so i guess what ever i can get more easily..i will get..there are things i like in both cars..in the celica, of course the looks and the interior is better..but the spec v has a lot more for the money.oh well, we'll see soon!!
Mazda MP3 [I think that's the cool, great handling one], Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V or Subaru WRX would greatly compliment your Celica. She should also test drive the Ford SVT Focus.

I really like the SVT Focus from what I have read about it. Have yet to see one in the streets though.
Well, as a Ford employee I get my hands on some things 'nice' and tonight it's a 2002 SVT Focus.
My observations:
Much better steering response than either ITR or GT-S.
Brake feel is better than GT-S and on par with the ITR.
Suspension tuning is suprisingly 'soft'. On some roads where I run the ITR pretty aggressive - aggressive enough to begin to slide the SVT would kind of rock laterally. Needs just a bit more rebound damping? Overall suspension tuning is better than ITR and GT-S for driving on public roads.
Handling is very, very good. Intitial turn in is sharp without feeling unstable. It rolls a bit more than the ITR, but it's still a sharp handling car on turn-in.
Chassis Balance: Very, very good. Whereas the ITR is razor sharp [all the time] and always seems to ask you to push a bit more the SVT doesn't speak to you in the same manner. It asks you to forgo braking and just turn the wheel [this is on public roads still, mind you] and the little boxy car just goes into the most neutral of slides with the steering load building up progressively. I don't think the Continentals are as sticky as the Bridgestone S03s I have on 'the Aelf' so outright grip may not be as high which makes the car more fun for the street.
Things I liked
Steering wheel
Steering feedback
Muffler tuning - you back of the throttle and you hear a faint 'whoofling' from the tailpipe. Cool.
Seats
Initial turn-in and chassis balance.
Looks and stares from people. Could be they were wondering WTF I was doing on public roads driving the way I was, too. :chuckles:
Things I didn't like or would change:
Flywheel effect from too much flywheel inertia. I'd definitely replace the stock item with one with a lower moment of inertia.
I'm spoiled by the ITR's shift feel and effort. The SVT needs a shorter throw. It's a tad balky, too.
Clutch engagement point, like the ITR, is high, but unlike the ITR with it's low moment of inertia flywheel, it's rather easy to 'bog' the car when leaving a light. A less massive flywheel would help, but I'd also like the engagement travel to be a lot less in the car.
Overall Opinion
ABSOLUTELY ADORE THE LITTLE CAR. Really. It's such a blast to drive that I think I'd lose my license. Honestly. I find myself driving it just as quickly if not more so than my ITR on curvy roads. The ITR seems to be a car that will still reach out and bite you if you make small mistakes. The SVT isn't like that at all. Which means it's probably not nearly as quick, ultimately, but it is more fun on a day-to-day basis.
The ULTIMATE question: Would I buy it? Yes, without hesitation I would and I highly recommend it as well.
take her to an autocross and have her sit shotgun and drive your celica like you stole it :D

Get the Spec-V. But that's not any faster than the Celica. If she cares about performance and future mods, get the RSX-S. Those will be a tad faster than the Celica. Uh oh, I'm going to get flamed for saying that.

Go drive the car and see for yourself what YOU like and what YOU don't like. There are many cars "faster" than the Celica. You must be more specific about what it is you want and WHERE you wish to be faster. Or would you reall mean QUICKER?
Just in case you didn't know I drive an ITR. So, I'm no "lover" of Ford products or ANY manufacturer's products. I "love" driver's cars and the SVT Focus is one.

hey chui..i hope i didnt offend u..i didnt mean to..i was just saying i prefer toyotas & nissan.. but i would take an ITR over the two anyday..
basically..the kind of car i want is one that looks good..and will last. it seems that some american cars cant keep up with imports in that department..(but i could be wrong)..
but in ur opinion..which do u like??? the celica or the spec v??
Spec V. It's got an LSD, it's got four doors [practical], it's got power where it's useable. It's got 'Q-ship' looks [by that I mean it doesn't really stand out when it cruises by]. It's fun to drive just like the SVT Focus is fun to drive. The Celica requires more commitment to play with on public roads and the ITR, like the S2000, requires serious commitment - something you won't or at least SHOULDN'T - to exploit the grip and chassis balance.
You never stated what you wanted the car for. Honestly look at the reasons you want the car:
Will you autocross?
Will you open track?
Do you simply enjoy a fantastic driver's car on public roads?
How often will you TRULY attempt to exploit the propensities of the vehicle?
If you're going to autocross, then buy a Celica GT. The increase in power of the GT-S is compromised by the peaky torque of the engine and poor gearing. Yes, an ITR would be the best choice for FF [front engine, front drive] Platform. However, a Miata would be THE savvy choice...
The ITR would be the "perfect" open tracker for a FF platform, too. But are you HONESTLY interested in this? There's the insurance hit from this car due to theft; it's a bit noisier than the Celica, rides just a bit stiffer than the GT-S and has sharper initial turn-in with less body-roll. Combine all of this and it may not be what you're looking for for a daily driver. IS this purchase a daily driver?
On 95% of the public roads for 95% of the drivers out there for 95% of the type of driving they do the SVT Focus and the Nissan SE-R are more fun than either of the Celicas and the ITR. And I've driven them all and I don't disagree, yet I adore the ITR.

i completely agree. the GTS is in a weird position because it's a compromise between the ITR and a more road-friendly car, but even then, the new york roads have not been nice to my GTS. a friend of a friend around here had an old Type R but he got rid of it (drives an S4 now  damn parents), the shocks were gone on that thing almost as quick as on my car, and it was rattling a bit too after a year like my car.
for a real everyday car, the Spec V would be pushing it in terms of performance suspension, IMHO.
if your roads are decent, the Celica GT (5-speed at least) is incredibly light (2414 and that's if you got all the options) and has a very nice flat torque curve compared to the GT-S so it's pretty damn quick for normal around the town driving.
ONe thing else I forgot to mention is that objective numbers mean little in the "real world". 0 to 60, 0 to 100, 0 to 100 to 0, lateral acceleration, slalom speed, etc, do not translate to public roads and responsible driving on public roads. Yes, a GT-S is "safer" in transitional [accident avoidance maneuvers] than, say, a Yugo, but when we compare comparable vehicles it just doesn't translate well. For instance, I had more fun in 8 hours in the SVT Focus than I have had in 2 yrs ownership in my ITR. Keep in mind I'm speaking about driving quickly on public roads. The high lateral grip [in excess of 0.9 g] of the ITR requires STUPID, IRRESPONSIBLE driving to get the thing to slide thru a corner. If you get anything wrong, you're seriously injured if not killed. So I never get to truly drift the car thru a series of turns except for the odd track event. The Focus was much easier to slide on the Continental rubber and I could play with the chassis a bit at much slower speeds. This "slower" car was thus more fun to drive. There are a series of corners with conspicuous run-off that I do run the ITR thru and if you do it quickly enough one can make it thru the light cycle. I was not able to do it within my driving limitations in the SVT Focus, but I'm able to sprint thru the light in the ITR. The distance is about 3/4 mile with some very interesting decreasing radii turns some nice sweepers [where the ITR is ABSOLUTE KING at it's pricepoint] and some really tricky off camber turns. Not many people play here, but if you screw up there is gravel then well cut smooth field. The inside isn't as forgiving. So when I drive cars home I take them here to play with them a few times to see how they respond to different types of driver input. Both the SVT Focus and the Nissan are EXCELLENT cars from that perspective. Quicker than we are [well, 99% of us anyway], forgiving and relatively inexpensive to purchase, maintain and insure. We are living in "great" times... Automotively speaking, that is.

se-r has lsd and 4 doors, more power(although nissian really overrated them, or they loose ALOT of power thru the tranny)
gt has less weight, looks, and handling, better interior
they both run high 15s 1/4mile (the se-r was SUPPOSE to run high 14s but that never happened)
i went and looked at them... i was kinda dissapointed overall... and then when the dealer said i couldn't change even a sparkplug without voiding the warrenty i walked out
"...the dealer said i couldn't change even a sparkplug without voiding the warranty..."

I've been to the track few times and I have yet to see an se-r spec v do better than low 15's... and that was a rarity.

If you are deciding between a Celica GT or Spec V, go with the Spec V. Better value for the money in terms of stand equpiment, engine performance, etc., The spec V even has a LSD, which only a handfull of cars have. The only thing you will lose out on by not buying the Celica is the look of the car, which she will get over considering there are a ton of them on the road now...
If you were deciding between a Celica GT-S or Spec V, hands down the Celica.
