First, I tried the search function and there were a lot of posts regarding idle problems but none specifically adressing this one.
I have a 2000 GT with no mods, about 32,000 km's (20K miles). When I start the car the idle is at 1,600 then after a few seconds it slowly drops to 1,200 then a couple seconds later it goes back to 1,600 and then stays there. I try revving and putting into gear and back into neutral but there is no difference. After driving for about half a minute it goes to about 700-800 (when stopped of course) and then stays there no matter how long I drive.
I understand that 700-800 is the correct idle spec., so what could be causing this. I am waiting for Toyota to call about replacing the belt tensioner (waiting for parts) so I don't want to take it to the dealership for this and then go back again when my parts get in. I was in this weekend at the dealership and of course the problem didn't start until Monday for the first time ever, so I am thinking the tech might have messed something up....I bought the car used two weeks ago and otherwise it is perfect.
