Hey there guys. I have a 2000 GTS, Automatic with 69,500 miles on the odometer (but found out through a Car Fax report that the correct mileage should be +30k miles). Anyhow, I'm having some problems with my GTS that are really worrying me. I would greatly appreciate any help you guys can provide.
Transmission
I've noticed that recently my GTS has been shifting weird. From a complete stop, when I give the car gas, the car revs and then about 5k RPM the car shifts into the next gear, but the car still sounds like its revving up. I don't know if this makes any sense but I'm trying to explain it as best as I could. I checked the tranny fluid and with the engine at operating temperature (temp gauge needle in the middle) the fluid level is at the "cool" part of the dipstick. And I also noticed that the fluid is dark in color and also some bubbles are present in the fluid.
Shutting off while Idling/loss of power
I also noticed that recently my GTS doesnt have the power it used to have. What I mean is that it feels like its being restricted of its power somehow. Like the car is having a very hard time picking up speed and the idling feels rough. I floor the gas pedal to the floor and the car has a hard time accelerating. Also, like two weeks ago I was at a Red traffic light and the idle dropped almost to zero and the car almost stalled. I gave it gas and it stayed on. The same day I was at another traffic light and it did the same thing. Since this day though, it hasn't happened again.
Weird noise
This one is really bugging me. When I start up my car and I'm ready to drive away, I put my car in drive and all of a sudden I hear this terrible rattle coming from the front of the car somewhere. I cant seem to be able to pin point exactly to where in the car the sound is coming from. It mostly makes this noise when driving from a complete stop. But it doesn't happen all the time.
Since I've owned the car I've always kept up with the maintenance, or at least I think I have. I don't drive the car much really. To and From work (10 miles round trip) and to and from my son's school (about 10 miles round trip as well). So I put about 6k miles in the car annually, half of what the average of 12k is. I keep up with the oil changes, and yearly tuneup, etc... I gotta say though that since I've owned the car I've never had to do any major work/repair to the car. Has never overheated (but I've never added/flushed the coolant). No leaks under the car. Has been a really good and reliable car so far.
So I'm hoping that you guys can shine some light on some of the problems I'm having with the car. I really love my GTS and would love to keep it for as long as I could. Thanks!
