Hopefully someone will answer your better than me, because I don't actually have much clue about how our ignitions are wired (beyond what I can pop the hood and see).
I do wonder what you think you will gain with an aftermarket ignition/coil. At best, I could see 1hp on the dyno assuming you are not running forced induction or nitrous (in which case, there are possible gains).

Yes teh igniters are built into the coils. Is there a way to get around it? Technically it is possible. You would just have to monitor the ignition firing requests from the ECM and send back a firing confirmation signal and teh ECM would be happy. Is there any point? I doubt it.
