Does anybody have this done? If so where did you find the ignition wire at? Also what is the procedure of turning it on? I heard you have to turn the key while pressing the button at the same time, then I heard that the key just has to be left in the on position then press the button. Help please

Yup. I did this mod over a year ago.
Turn key to on position, push button. Engine starts.

Where did you find the ignition wire at in/outside of the car?

I didnt. A Toyota technician did all the wiring for me. All I did was install the button.
Just FYI, its an IGNITED illuminated push button, not an S2000 button. I dont know if an S2000 button would fit or would work the same way.

I would like to put a puch button start in my car...does any one have directions on how to do this...I also want to know where did you put your button and will this work if your car is a stick...

yes...it'll work for a stick...
i had wiring codes for it...but i don't know where they're at now... you gotta tap into the wires coming off the ignition (at the bottom of the steering column, it makes it easier)...make sure you solder the connections...and also buy some extra wire cause you won't have enough slack to work with to put it somewhere like where your ashtray was or cig lighter for example... Call up Code Alarm and tell the you bought their remote start and you need the wiring diagram for it, and they should give the color codes to you...

Well I just won a real S2000 button for $40 off of ebay. Im hoping it has the same configuration as the after market blank buttons. My boy who works at circuit city has access to wiring diagrams so I will post it ASAP along with instructions when I receive it. So give me like 1 day to post the wiring diagram and a week for instructions if needed.

thats great. you do that.
whats the point? it takes less effort to turn the key another 1/4 of an inch than to reach over and hit a button

question, if you do the S2000 starter button MOD, will you be able still start the engine the conventional way or not

Yeah, that wire would be called the power wire. There is three wires needed to be ran. The power, ground, and ignition!

Would you do the forum a favor and follow the ignition wire from the button to the necessary wire and share with everyone. There should be three wires (12 volt +, ground, and ignition) Were does the ignition wire go? PLEASE HELP US MISTRIMEAT OR CASHMONEY? Im sweatin my ass off trying to find it

i tried looking at the ignition and there are like 6 wires??? which one is the +volt, ground, and ignition???
Gregoreo
07-19-2002, 09:06 AM
No, Im saying that the button has 3 used pins on it. The ignition should have about 6 wires but you only need one for the button. The s2000 button actually has 5 pins but 2 of them are not used.

Good question! Its chicken scratch I tell you! I snuck out a 2000 Celica GTS diagram manual and I referenced the ignition diagram but it tells you nothing on which wire it is or where it is. I can digitize it if you think you can read it. (youll probably have to be an Electric Engineer major) It would be easier if someone from the org who has one just follow the wire from the button to the ignition wire. To bad all are fuddy duddies and wont do us a favor :(

you're going to have remote start AND push botton start. i was thinking of doing this, bcuz both are damn cool! but thought it might be a lil over kill.. 3 different ways to start the car? leme know how it turns out if you get it done.
also, how much are you guys paying for your push start buttons?

Hey crew whats goin on? I just got back from circuit city and got the correct diagram i can understand (and you guys too). One of u give me your address so i can mail the paperwork cuz i have no way to digitize it. Im about to install it now so ill let you know how it goes

Hey u guys, I got the button in yesterday and its firin it up. Im going to post a forum on the install for it. hope it works out for you all
Gregoreo

Nevermind too much to type. anyway take apart your steering column cover. There should be three screws holding it. You might have to rotate steering wheel to see two of the screws. Remove casing. There is a medium sized harness that connects to the key ignition. Pop that out and you will see about 8 wires connected to the adapter. The wire you want to splice into is (black/white).
The install is exactly like the hondas with the starter wire being (black/white) too. Here is a link for a real S2000 button install on another honda, which you can use.

Hey, could you move the wires going to the hazard switch down to a toggle out of the way, and then run the ignition and ground to the hazard. It'd be a cool way to disguise your starter.
Gregoreo
07-23-2002, 07:38 AM
Yeah you could swith the hazard button to a toggle switch. The toggle switch will have to have 3 pins though. Also Im not sure if the button will fit in the existing fitment. I thought about it but wasnt sure if it fitted so I just took out the cig adapter since I dont use it (and the piece of s**t doesnt work). It is an easier way to access the button instead of having to wrap your hand around the stick. Let me know how it goes.
PS (if u guys can find a "real" s2000 button, I highly recommend it cuz its appearance is a lot better during day and night. Instead of the button just glowing with the generic ones, S2000 "Engine Start" light glows red at night) major plus :chuckles:

no no... Leave the stock hazard switch, but wire it as the starter, only you will know where the starter really is.
Gregoreo
07-23-2002, 08:27 AM
:ugh: Now THAT is a really good question! I would doubt it because the hazard button is a switch. push in = on, push out = off, when the S2000 button is not a switch, you just hold it in to engage it. you might be able to but u would have to press on, press off within a matter of 2-3 seconds. And your hazard wouldnt work unless you were engaging your ignition. Troubleshooting takes you closer to the answer than anything. It would be VERY original if you pull it off

Its a cool mod, but I dont even use it anymore. I used it for like 5-6 months and now I'm just as content with starting it the old fashioned way. Too much trouble reaching over to hold down the button. I'm a lazy bastard, though.

I got the button here (http://www.optauto.com/webstore/product_information.asp?number=IGN-SS01R&variation=&aitem=4&mitem=9&back=yes&dept=1690) for $65.00 and I had my brother-in-law (who is a Toyota dealership technician) rig up the wiring for free. All I did was install the button where I wanted it to go.

I just finished installing my s2000 button. I took the cigarette adapter out and put the starter in there. With a little sanding it fit perfectly. I also completely removed the ignition switch completely. Keyless Starting. I installed a switch for my accessories, and ignition, along with a hidden master switch. I also hooked up to another button which must be pressed prior to starting to allow the car to start. This keeps the car from getting stolen. I will take pix of the install soon and put them up for everyone.

Sanding??? Mine didnt require any sanding at all, it just popped right into the cig lighter hole. Took like 5 minutes total.
Sounds like you go through alot of trouble just to start your car...flip a switch, then push a button THEN push another button? Dayam!!! ;)
Would like to see pix though!
FYI - a seasoned car theif could easily trace wires and find the ignition wire...no matter how many buttons or switches you have.
