I have a 2000 Celica GT, I put a new motor in it from Toyota, so it is brand new. The problem I have is that its cranking, and has spark, compression and fuel but the thing will not fire. Im at the end of my rope when it comes to troubleshooting this thing. I looked on the ECU wires, and several were bare (wires exposed) with what appeared to be a wire harness for a turbo timer hooked in to it. I realize that's quite the assumption, however the original motor I removed from the Celica has a nitrous burn through the piston head, so its plausible. Could those bare wires be interfering with how the ECU reads the sensors? Also note worthy, when I first tried to fire it up, there was a massive spark from behind the battery somewhere, to the firewall, I didn't see the spark myself, but could that have shorted the ECU out?
thanks,

check all your fuses. if you had a huge spark then you probably blew a main fuse. hopefully or fried the ecu. find out what caused the spark and go from there.
but you said its got spark. compression and fuel. are your injectors firing? and this is new out of the box toyota engine? so your timing is a-ok?

The motor was a new long block, and it was a tad spendy, just about $3200. As for the timing, I did that while the motor was on a stand, and it is still dead on.

I know the injectors are working, the pump is new, and I have spark. so really the darn thing should fire. Im not understanding why it will not. Is there a testing procedure for ECU's? or is it guess and replace?
