View Full Version : kick my Celica for a Dodge Stealth?

hi,
I had many moments this winter where I was pretty pissed off, coz my FWD 2zz just didn't have any traction...

So I considered any AWD or 4x4 and so the Dodge Stealth came in to consideration...

both have many pros and contras...

So today I did a test drive of a Dodge Stealth with 320bhp and over 450NM all stock, it's the last Version of 1996, which is a bit less in weight than the previous versions, but always still over 3700pounds... It had extrem traction(stock 0-100km/h in 5s), it's extremly fast and is exactly the same as a Mistubishi 3000GT technically his brother...

I'm so confused now, don't know which way I shall go..

my pros of the Celica are:
smaller
lighter
better mpg
better cargo
sunroof

pros of Stealth are:
stronger engine
faster
better traction
unique car

contras of the Celica are:
too much hassle in my country to go FI
weak image(haha Toyota, haha FWD)
no traction on rain or snow

contras of the Stealth are:
heavy car
big car
no sunroof

Celica is:
sunny day curve hunter
Stealth is:
all day traction and acceleration beast

Keep your head screwed on the right way. The Stealth is faster and has traction of AWD. Other than that, its a piece of crap:puke: :puke: The celica is more than adequate with good snow tires. I've never had a problem and i've owned my celica for 9 years. Celica is a good car that will last a long time and hold decent value.

The Stealth is not a bad car, but if reliability and fuel mileage are important to you then you will miss the Celica quite a bit. If AWD and decently fast are important criteria I believe there are better options out there than the Stealth if you are into sedans.

dodge stealth=mitsubishi 3000=both are crappy cars that dont last and would be a waste of money

As long as it was taken care of with previous owners i would do the trade considering your situation.

Go For it.

Stealth = $$$$$$$$ (upkeep and repair)

The Mitsubishi 3000 is a bit better relibiliy wise.

Given the option and the money to maintain, I'd get the Stealth, and KEEP the Celica......

EVO over 3kgt or stealth.

EVO over 3kgt or stealth.

Except for the fact that a stealth is around $2,600 while a second hand EVO is roughly $14,000 at the cheapest(for an evo 8). I dont know his price range but im assuming its not in the range of buying an evo because he's considering a 96' stealth.

I personally think you should keep the celica over a dodge stealth, but then again i think american cars are crap. I've had little to no problems with my celica in snow or rain, just get some good all-season tires.

Now if you really want to buy something new, i would recommend looking into possibly a RWD market. A 240sx or 300zx would solve the horsepower problem, and they're gorgeous.

good gawd... run from the stealth. do what the brand name tells you to, and DODGE the pos.

there's a good reason why theyre rare on the streets around here... because theyre common in the scrap yards, especially the rt turbos with awd.

Former Stealth owner here: 93 Dodge Stealth ES

Total POS!

Well not really it was fun... while it lasted. I'm suprised you found someone actually selling the AWD version. The VR4 and the R/T TT AWD Stealth are very hard to come by. When the upkeep is good on them they are very fun cars I will admit. I still consider my Si a large step up from the 220HP ES that I owned in every aspect. Honestly my recomendation is unless you are getting a true blue 3000GT VR4 don't bother. Those are the only ones that maintain good value when kept up on. Also if you have a GT-S then keep that because chances are good you'll be able to take a stock non-TT 3KGT/Stealth with I/H/E honestly.

BOTTOM LINE:
DONT DO IT!..... unless it's a 3KGT VR4

GSBoek
03-02-2010, 04:37 AM
I still wonder why people say the 3000GT VR4 is better than the Stealth R/T Turbo. They were both built by Mitsubishi so I'd be inclined to think that reliability would be equally bad for both. So this statement below is out of place:
but then again i think american cars are crap

Or maybe the 3000GT was more equal than the Stealth. :chuckles:

they're both the same damned car, built in the same damned plant.

they both suck donkey testicles.

mtsubishi = money pit, i have a eclipse before i got my celica and i a huge amount of money on it trying to keep it up and running, i have it for a year and a half and sold it. why not just get a wrx or a sti, its AWD and turbo.

Stealths are garbage agreed, but I have a few buddies who have 1999 Mitusbishu 3000GT VR4's and they are really nice cars. I would trade my Celica for a 99 3000GT VR4 any day

GSBoek

^I don't see the logic in that. Again:

The stealth has GM parts and the 3000GT has Mitshubshi Parts. They are the same Car in ways but at the same time very different. Plus with the 99's there was a whole new body style implimented that made them look a hell of alot better

My dad had a 3KGT for a while and like i said before if it is properly maintained i would trade it in a heartbeat. My dad took care of it and only had one problem a speedometer problem.. go figure in the 6 years he had the car.

The whole platform is a Mitsubishi design, Chrysler (not GM) contributed only trim pieces, everything else is Mitsubishi. Both were built in Japan to add to that.

EDIT:Never mind. I give up.

Exactly what he said. The exterior is different yes but all the internals done to the wiring harness is the same.

Next their gonna say the plymouth lazer, mitsu eclipse and eagle talon were different cars with different parts lol.

Hate to break it to you guys but mitsu and dodge have colabrated since the 80's just changing the appearence of the cars and slapping different names on them

:chuckles:hi,

so I slept over night and saw the conclusion, I will keep my Celi.

The pros. vs. contras were speaking for the Celi.

To clear a bit the case, I had several tuned cars ready since 8 years -> 8 cars, here the tuned ones: Corrado VR6 with a great KW adjustable suspension and all possible bolt ons. / Calibra Turbo 4x4 Diamond edition full built to 280bhp(miss him) / 300zx TT entertainment build and boosted up to over 360bhp. / Beretta GTZ with customs(the true sleeper)/ Kawasaki 500GPZ / 9. Celica TS....

So I am not really a bloody newb. I also race Go-Karts :chuckles:

Yes, I could get an Evo, even a X or the newest STi, and I also ready was driving EVOs, coz I considered getting one but for sure not any EVO over the 6 Version except MR Versions... But I'm still no farmer yet ..
Stealth is unique in Switzerland, EVOs we have too much as farmers, also Porsches and all other prestige slow a$$ cars.

The Stealth is a 3000GT. Except the aero dynamic variable controlled system and other body, even body parts are interchangeable. The 1996 Stealths were the last ones, which were much better in all, also less in weight. AND damn, these cars are extrem beasts after a build, smoking extrem Supras!!!! But rather for the straight only, which in the long run will fade out in fun IMO.

I think my Celi will be less pain to maintain after a serious full built, also you guys here help allot. the 3si forums from the 3000GT/Stealth are not bad, but not comparable to newcelica forum

THX!

Gas is going to hit probably 3.50-4.00 and probably go no lower than 2.50 for the next 4 years.

I am not sure why the hell you would get rid of one of the most fuel efficient small cars (Toyota Celica) in the last 9 years.

Also getting an Evo X is like letting your insurance agent open up your ******* to a huge pecker of money wasted pain.

I was gonna say my Stealth had Mitsubishi written everywhere but the rear bumper. The engine, suspension, chassis, breaks etc etc. all had mitsu part numbers if I remember right. I know that the R/T TT and VR4 are the same however on all the forums I was in people had more problems with the R/T for some strange reason. I may be the owners buying it because it's "American" and they didn't take care of them. I don't know. What I do know is the complaints were defiantly not 50/50

People with the VR4s just kept them up better I guess.

Corrado VR6

i had a g60 (the supercharged one) for a short time and MAN i loved that car... soooo rare around here. that car was an absolute blast. id take it today in a heartbeat (only since ive acquired a LOT more tools to do all the work required to keep it running lol)

You want to explain to us why the Stealth, which is the same car, built in the same plant, by the same people, has different parts?

Even more confusing to me, is how the Stealth has GM parts - considering the Stealth is a Dodge which is owned by Chrysler - GM's competitor.

Or are you just making this all up?
