View Full Version : Finally gonna do FI (Help/Ideas)

I have always been back and forth on the idea of F/I for the 1zz. Well...i did really well @ my job this past year and got a nice bonus, and taxes are coming back as well - so basically...i have quite a bit of extra money to play with. I always thought it wasn't a wise investment out of pocket when I had the money, however now it is just extra money i wouldn't have in the first place - so why not get something nice?

Anyways - I have always wanted to do a S/C instead of a turbo - however it doesn't look like there is too much action with the Rotrex kit anymore, and I know the Blitz kit does not fit the 1zz. Basically - I would be stuck with getting the tRd supercharger, and I don't want that hood - so unless something has changed over the winter (I've been away from this site for a while), I am going to need to go turbo right? Plus - from my understanding, it looks like getting a turbo kit would be less $$$ than a rotrex charger anyways.

I have heard a lot of good things about tk.com kits. I am not looking to run my car hard all the time, or really even race that much, I have just always wanted a boosted celica, and now I can do it. There are a few things that worry me though, even after reading the FAQS:

I do not know anything about tuning. I won't be messing with it, I will go to a shop to do it. I won't mess with the boost or anything afterwards either. I will read up and try to make myself more aware of whats going on with my car, and I have a few buddies that know about it all - should I hold off on this because of that?

My car has just went over $100,000 miles this winter and is my DD. I do take care of it, and I will take care of it even more with a Turbokit. Should high miles REALLY be that big of a deal? If so - what should I replace that isn't coming with the kit?

The only CEL is a bad o2 sensor. I haven't fixed it because I haven't found it worth my time or money, and it drives just fine without it. Everything is stock as far as engine work goes except for an ebay sri because it was about the same amount to replace the air filter as it was to get that. I would like to get a 2 1/2" straight pipe all the way back if not a 3" pipe. I do not know how this sounds, but I would like a "deep" sounding exhaust. Any ideas here, and I shouldn't have to worry about the CEL right?

Any other advice? I think The TK.com kit is where I am going to go, with the PFC upgrade. I know it come pre-mapped but I don't want to drive it without a right tune. Also - anyone have any good shops in the kentuckiana area? Nashville is only 2hrs away too if anyone could help out. I would like the work done by someone who is knowledgeable about the 1zz.

Before you slap a turbo kit on from tk.com

Check your compression it should be atleast 180 across the board or more.

Second the 1zz's have oil consumption problems. Does yours burn alot of oil.

Just because he hasnt replaced an oxygen sensor doesnt mean he cant purchase a turbo kit .

The 1zz conneting rods breaking point is 255 whp so as long as you dont go over that you should be fine. Considering the above points i mentioned are still good.

Yes the pfc comes with a pre map but dont drive off of that make for to long basically to the tune shop and thats it.

If you get a reputable turbo kit and a reputable person to tune your car your car will have little matience its all in the tune.

I was always scared of my car because I have heard of the 1zz oil problems, especially since mine is an '02. I have had it for about 1.5 years and have had no problems. I would like to think since the car has made it this far, We are all good here :)

The reason i didn't replace the sensor is because i had a bad one in my 00 gts, 02 vr6, and then this. It is a common problem and i figure i would replace it later, or when I put a straight pipe going all the way back. Where I am at is no emissions testing either...so I'm not worried.

All I really am looking for is about 225whp. Ill take more, but I am good there.

I have figure that out so far, thank you though. I want a performance and tuning shop to do the work, or a performance shop near a tuning shop, just to make sure everything is right. I live about ~45 away from any kind of tuning shop.

Where did you get this checked at? I would like to do it, just need an idea on what kinda shops do this.

My plan is to have a shop that knows that they are doing help / do the install and tune it. I am new to F/I, and i Have a few buddies who have went F/I before to help me along, just kinda want to take the most cautious steps i can before i drive it.

We are right here in CT, can handle the full install & tuning and have everything on the shelf ready to go. NY isn't that far and you can be assured it is done right :)

We just had a customer drive in from Ohio and have his kit installed.
