I was just wondering, everyone that does not have a CEL light with an aftermarket intake. How much oil did you add to the air filter if any.... I'm just wondering if there is a connection between saturating your air filter and problems with the MAF sensor....

Have had the Injen CAI 3rd gen for over a year and no CEL. (knock on wood) Didnt add any oil at all.

Lotta times it will also have to do with tightness of connections, or maybe I should put it looseness.....

There's way to many variables to blame it on overoiling soley

I have heard that brand new K&N filters, out of the box, may leave some oil on the MAF sensor. In that case, some have recommended using a q-tip to get in there and clean it.

Just becareful, after you clean your filter, and reoil it... not to saturate it too much.

I've had my AEM CAI for about a year with no problems. Installed straight out of the box (no additional oiling).

This is no theory it is a fact - over-oiling causes coated MAFS which causes CEL and P0171 codes. Its been discussed before if you want some additional info - a search should do the trick.

99% off all CEL's from intakes are from the MAS not seating properly..A lot of the Injen intakes leak through the screw holes which is what Ive seen multiple times and cause a MAS check engine...We've taken some teflon past, stuck it in the screw holes, let it dry, then put the maf back on and its been smooth sailing...

he's right
remember that thread i posted a while about about my damn check engine light?
well i found out what it was.
take out your tube and blow threw the hole that the screws go into.
if air goes threw it than theres your problem.
this happened to two of my injen intakes.
what i used to cover up the inside was this clear sealant stuff(got it at autozone for a few bucks).
let it dry and put the intake tube back in.
no more check engine light.
cars runs hella strong now and no lag.
hope this helps:)

Thanks for the Info, I'm going to take the intake completely off and put it back on, clean the air filter, oil it very lightly I mean barely, I'm going to buy a new MAF sensor with rubber O-ring and try to plug up the screw holes. Also cut the length down on the red hoses that came with the intake.... I guess we will see, thanks for all the help guys.

While we're talking about intakes, is it normal to hear that hissing sound everyti,me you turn the car off? Its short, like 2 seconds. No big deal, but something might be leaking if thats not normal.

You should get a nice little sucking noise when you turn your car off. It's quite nice. People that don't know **** have asked me if I have a turbo.... .didn't know a turbo'd car sounded like that when you shut it down . but uh ok. :)

Is this a problem that the AEM intakes as well? Do people report as many CEL's with the AEM as the Injen?
