Hey everybody, I want to install my H&R lowering springs tomorrow so I need to know all the tools I need for the installation. I already have the impact wrench and sockets. Do I need anything else? I know I should use a spring compressor, but is it 100% necessary? I installed lowering springs in my 99 Si without using a spring compressor. Please help. THanks

USE A SPRING COMPRESSOR! It is needed, at least to get the stock springs off. Trust me.

if you need any more help keep us posted. there are a few of us on here that have done it quite a few times.

Actually it is a strut/spring compressor and you will also need two friends a metric socket set some screwdrivers and lots of beer.

..oh Eric, you forgot to tell him that you need a helmet for the flying spring. You've been there. You've felt the pain. ;) Eric installed mine and I've only been able to say  . He's a good resource for springs.

I never use spring compressors. Then again, I have done so many installs that I know ways around it. ;)

Explain to me how you would do a spring install w/o a spring compressor.

1) Put the strut/spring assembly on the ground
2) Point away from your car
3) Unscrew the top nut
4) Watch the **** out
5) Pick up all your stuff you just shot across the yard

I had to shoot one off like that cause one half of my strut/spring compressor stripped out on the last one. It wasn't that bad since I had it half compressed on one side.

I installed my springs without a spring compressor also. I took a vicegrip and clamped down on the strut inside the spring coils. Then i unscrewed the top...when the spring decompressed, the vicegrip caught it and slowed it down dramatically. As a matter of fact nothing shot off at all, I thought it was pretty safe.

:stupid:

a helmet is good for the humor characteristic and a digital camera is a must for those frustrating times.

Without the impact wrench, the springs would not have gone on. Plus it was fun to use.

an impact wrench is a blast!! it breaks the time in half, and gives an annoying sound that harasses all your neighbors

what i do is put on the ground or some grass with a wall in front and a rag on top of the strut&spring and shoot it out...it didnt shoot out as bad as i thought it would....Ive also done integras that way also...but if you really wanna do it the right way use a spring comressor.....
