One of the largest areas of recent production and performance automotive engineering has been in the aerodynamic sector. This link gives basic information on some of the fundamentals of relevant aerodynamics concerning automobiles:

and this link gives great examples of aerodynamic devices on race cars from several series:

Some more examples of racing aero

Shizuma, see all these holes I made on the bumper? The main reason is to let the air escape and minimize the parachute effect you mentioned. What do you have to say for my mod?http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/DSC012711.JPG

Haha,now let's wait for a rear diffuser-underpanel to arrive!
Any detailed pics of your diffuser?I remember seeing some somewhere...

Those links are awesome. But what specific aero diy's have you done shizuma? I know I've heard about some crazy aero projects you've worked on but never seen any diy's or even pictures... I'm sure between school/work/moderating this new forum your crazy busy but if you have the time could you post up some celica specific diy aero mods/pictures?
Oh and what are the opinions on the effectiveness of cutting those holes in the rear bumper? Is it an actual improvement? The idea makes sense but I don't know enough about fluid dynamics to make sense of what's actually happening... any cons?

I know I need to :gap:, my car is in pieces and is ~3 hours from me at the moment. On top of that I just started my new job, but school is finished in two weeks and once I'm done I plan on going down and finishing the piece....rest assured a build thread will ensue.

I think this is a great sticky. Ever since extreme dimensions came out with that ideas for kits thread ive been thinking of making making a custom kit that is for both performance and looks. Performance as in aerodynamics. I just dont know how to make molds and custom design it. Hope this sticky/section can get some info on that.

I made this for my Maxima a while back. Added 2+ mpg on the expressway. Making one for a celica wouldn't be hard given the way the rear bumper hangs.
