Allright guys I am sure this will be the first thread of many to come from me in this DIY fabrication section.
Just want to start by letting you know this thread is for ideas ,insight, and suggestions on any custom parts that could be made with my new plasmacam.
http://www.plasmacam.com/indexfla.php (check articles section in link)
I have a milling machine on the way later this year, and currently have access to my neighbors nice hydraulic presses!!
Any ideas of my own or others that I persue to create parts will be posted in its own separate thread of whatever subcategory it may apply too.
Nothing is currently for sale...yet... If enough interest arises another thread (private for sale...possibly even vendor sales is where I would like this to go..RETIREMENT JOB..lol..I am 26) will be created. Have not discussed terms with newcelica.org yet..and dont wish to untill I have professionally finished parts.
Here is a list of parts I currently wish to produce.
1.custom decals/badges
2.custom grills
3.underpanels front/rear
4.wheel spacers
5.custom battery tie downs
6.custom valve covers (maybe more engine covers accessories)
7.flanges/gaskets
8. anyone???
Thank you everyone for advice, support, or suggestions. I look forward to creating some custom celica parts!!!!!
danno look in my thread (c3ll's celi) in readers rides and tell me if this flatbottom underbody and diffuser is possible to be done with your thing... i think this would be one (if not the most) aerodynamicly helping part for the celi....

Interesting, your not the only one with that idea. Shizuma also has rear underpanel/diffuser in the making, his second version.
I am sure I could make something of that style, its very clean.
Interested to see shizumas first and second versions!! Anybody got a link???....shizuma??
The only thing that would make this difficult is having it custom to each individuals set-up.

Excellent ideas, my vote is for a metal underpanel and wheel spacers.
As long as this can be done cheaper than the "name brands" and have the same quality....I know where my money would be going.
Maybe there should be a sub forum section here called "Newcelica.org fabricated parts for sale" as a separate one than the main one for posting ideas and showing off our work :wiggle:

I vote for a front underpanel as well, gives us an option over the Beatrush/COne under panel. Also anyone looking into Engine Damper?? I know one was made way back and the COne is overpriced and hard to get, just wanted to see if there was interest in making them.

Laille corporation has patents galore on the beatrush underpanel. They are one of the few companies that actually send a paper with your panel that speaks about unauthorized duplication and recourses if you are caught selling copies.
So, if you are making a similar panel you need it to be slightly different. Not that I think they would come after anyone but they do go as far as sending out that paperwork so there must have been previous issues with this stuff.
I've thought about the underpanel modding before but ended up buying a beatrush panel anyways but here's my contribution:
A simple modification you could do to this underpanel is to add a trap door so you can get out your oil filter without having to pull the panel. Additionally you can notch the sides of the panel in a "finger" fashion and drill them out so that you have a nice easy way to mount the remaining underpanel plastics to the side instead of having to tuck them away like the rest of us do. However, I had planned to do all aluminum panels in the wheelwells and underneath.
for the people wondering about a engine damper, do a search on the KillerM torque brace. If someone could reproduce that with a shock damper instead of a skateboard bushing then we might have something. If I hadn't sold my KillerM brace 2 years ago I would do this project...

Yeah I was talking about an improved panel not a direct copy. Yeah if someone could create a new bracket for a torque damper that would be awesome, I can find the shock damper I Just have the right cutting tools to cut the thickness of metal I want for the bracket.

im more interested in the rear diffuser idea, and perhaps underpanels for the rear area cancelling out our oem parachute bumper cover... for us regular joes it'll mean better gas mileage.

The rear diffuser and second floor definitely helps with the "float" you feel in a stock-ish Celica after you get much past 90 mph. The only problem with running a true "diffuser" is that to produce any kind of real negative lift it needs to be supplemented with some kind of tunnel infrastructure before it. The car also needs to be sufficiently low that air cannot spill in from the sides.
For a DD kind of underpanel, I'd keep things simple and go the Lotus route: eg a flat aluminum underbody that incorporates the side-skirts of the car. You could add on a rear diffuser if you like the way it looks, but I'd keep it both shallow to prevent flow separation and thus forming drag as well as to keep it from getting ripped off on driveways :gap:.

front under pannel, maybe even pannels, but it needs to not hang any lower than the K-member on the subframe! Maybe bolt up through the OE holes on it? :wiggle:
and definitely put in hinges or a removable flap for the oil filter / drain plug.

o yea thats a good one..
in essence its just a sheet metal cut to shape with bolts.. a slightly cheaper version with a cut door for oil would be epic and il be ready 2 pay for that in a heartbeat

and obviously underpanels are nice too, heh

I'm going to try to create a rear underbody panel. I've made an example out of cardboard and will use a aluminium plate of 1.5mm or something. I've also got the mounting points and the shapes of the brackets.
I won't have it ready within a few days due to other obligations (work etc..:gap:), but I'll keep you guys posted.

The Plasmacam is up running!! Was pretty simple plug and play believe it or not, Just working on ventilation now.
Tested without the ventilation..couldnt resist..and just cut a #5 from a windows clip art folder. We never aligned the start point properly from the computer, so it gouged a bit.. part of the learning curve> but all in all its pretty good!! Will post pic tmmrw.
It took Approx 2 secs to cut..lol.. cant wait to get going on some parts.
Angry Dave this will be one of the first parts I will be making, well that and and my grill for my cone vr2 fb, Due to their simplicity, and the fact that I can incorporate art as well!! I was actually sketching some designs the other day..what did you have in mind??

05-07-2010, 05:35 PM
Not sure just yet, the piece itself will probably be pretty simple with the club name or initials cut out of it. Also probably just the center section and not a full tie down since we all have different cars and I'd be able to weld it onto whatever I need to.

adjustable under panels? idk....could you make a shift gate for the 6 speed shifter? One that is functional? Custom inserts for glovebox/ashtray/arm compartment thingy? How about making something out of tin or thin aluminum to screw in place on the front drivers side wheel plastic to block rain water from splashing from the wheel onto your CAI like I have on my car?
any chance you could do braces?
