I just got my car back from the dealer after two months. it was misshifted and had to have the valves replaced and the head rebuilt. Now it's been giving me code p1349, it'll go off sometimes and come back on later. the car also idles funny sometimes, bouncing from 700-1100ish and in between
i took it to toyota today(i've had the car back for 2 days now) and they spent 3 hours checking it out, said they have no idea why it did this and that it wasn't malfunctioning while they were checking it. They said it might be from driving it softly(back in breakin period now) or it could have been a fluke. Otherwise i have to take it back to them sometime when it's on and spend another afternoon talking to the nerdy guy at the parts counter on the chance that's it's malfunction right then and they figure out what the problem is. anyone here know anything indepth about it? maybe i can point my dealer in the right direction because they are obviously incompetent(long story)
thanks for any help anyone can provide

Tell them they need to check for adequate oil pressure to the VVTi OCV and also to check the oil screen to it. If you blew your oil pump when you misshifted it tends to blow peices of metal all throughout the the lubrication system and they can and will clog or jam the VVTi system. Basically they need to go through it from oil galley to actuator and figure out what is restricted. Its also possible that they have the cams timed up wrong which is pretty common as well.

thanks alot.... it wasn't mishifted enough to make it break right away... it bent valves but didn't crack the pistons and whatnot... it drove for months like that before i figured out what it was that was wrong...
here's another thing... when they did the work, they used regular oil when they changed it. i use syntetic, and i drove it about 50 miles when i got it before i drained all that and put mobil 1 back in it(with a mobil 1 filter as well). could that or ANYTHING i did when i changed the oil have an effect on it? before i changed it the light had come on and gone off again so the problem was there before i changed the oil. i also changed the plugs(i had an extra set of the denso iridiums, and i didn't know if the ones they put in were new or not so i just replaced them anyway)
i have to go back in the morning and let them scan it again

I dont think the oil has any effect on it.It might be the cams.I came across a car that had a timing belt off by one tooth on one of the cams and would throw a VVTi solenoid circuit code.Took awhile to figure that one out.

Nah I don't think it was you - sounds like theers some junk floating around in there if its intermittent. If the timing chain was off a tooth I believe it would set every 2 drive cycles like clockwork.

i believe i might have had that code p1349 as well not sure though...this was after my bottom end was replaced...after i got it back...one day it would rev on its own to 2-3g range while i'm not driving it, just sitting at a stop light or whatnot...anyways it did it for about 20 minutes that day but *knock on wood* it hasn't done it since...they did replaced my vvti valve to fix the cel for that code i believe...hope this helps...

Yeah it's crap in your oil system, I had the same thing, they said they had to clean out a "VVT Valve" that was clogged up.
