I had my syncros replaced at about 15k...now at 45k, my tranny is getting rebuilt again...

My issue is that the tranny only ginds on the downshift...

The first time they rebuilt they put in new syncros...

This time, the tech was baffeled at it so they had to call in some "Master Tech Customer Rep" guy to drive it with me..

We drove it and he knew exactly what the problem was...

He orderd a bunch of parts and didnt even tear down the tranny..

He said that there was a TSB for this issue where there are updated Shifting Forks, Shifting Rods and a bunch of other pieces that are updated to A.) prevent Mis-shifts and B.) to prolong syncro life.

He said only the 00 and 01 have the problem and they are fixing it all under warrenttee and giving new syncros..and giving a rental.

Just letting you know because I know an abnormal amount of people have ben having this issue with syncros at low miles. The dealer is [b]CamelBack Toyota in PHX, AZ...if you have a dealer thats giving you the run around, have em call up this dealer and see whats up because the first dealer I went to had no Idea about the tranny update....

That TSB doesn't include shift forks and has nothing to do with prologing syncro life - its to help you not mis-shift.

I'm talking about this

http://www.radphys.com/TSB_2001_6spd_GTS_Gear_difficulty.pdf

It has nothing to do with shift forks. I'm not saying theer wasn't something wrong with them, I just think ordering before and teardown is a bit odd... /shrug. As long as they fix it right the first time its all good, but he was liying about the shift forks being a TSB.

The TSB states:

In order to assist drivers that have experienced difficulty selecting gears, production changes have been made to the shift
cables, shift select mechanism, and internal transaxle components.

Notice that it says "internal transaxle components" and lists gear shift forks numbers 1 and 3 along with various other transmission parts.

Which part helps the synchros last longer. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Heltor

Read it again, thats the select shaft, not the shift fork itself. It is being replaced because the components taht provide the "Gate" feel are integral to teh select shafts. The ONLY thing this addresses is the shift gates and the "feel" of gear selection it has nothing whatsoever to do with syncro life.

It's all good, I guess I read that wrong. I figured out that my problem was because the clutch wouldn't disengage all the way and they put the automatic transmission fluid in my manual transmission.

GTS LAID:
Did you read about my arbitration yet? I lost even though I had the receipt showing the ATF in my manual transmission and the excess free play in my clutch pedal. Now everyone here is saying I have to go after the dealer for it. They owe me $3700!
