I was driving my the other day, I tried speeding up and all of a sudden I lost power. The engine had lost so much power and was going to turn off at the traffic light if I didn't keep my foot on the gas pedal. Now when I turn it on it sounds like a lawnmower and it turns off.
Here's is some background:
The car is 01GTS Manual with 113,000 miles. I put a cheap short ram from Ebay last year. I was driving it about 2 weeks ago and noticed that the engine light came on. At that point when the car was at idle it would shake and when I got out of the car the exhaust was shaking a bit. Then after I turned it off, it wouldn't start back up. So I got a jump start and bought a new battery thinking that was the problem. The following day I took it to a mechanic, he tuned it up and said there was no problem with the engine. So the other day when I was driving on the highway and the light came on and when I was trying to speed up it lost power at 45000RPMs. I went and bought a new MAF thinking that was the problem, but it changed nothing. What do you guys think is wrong with my engine? Do you think I need a new engine?

If it was throwing a CEL, you should at least get the code scanned and we can help from there. You have to understand that it's impossible to diagnose over the internet if we don't have enough information.

this
get the code checked, its not a surprise that you lost power, when you have a cel on there is a safety cut off which restricts how fast you are able to go. if you are in 6th gear at 4500 rpm you must be close to hitting a 100 m/ph which most car won't let you go pass 90 or a 100 i believe.

Hey guys thanks for the reply. I actually took it to Midas and they checked it out, but they couldn't figure out what the problem was. I installed my stock intake box back on and it still runs the same, just a little better. The guy from Midas, tried changing MAF, Coals, and nothing he could do. So I took it to the dealership about 3 hours ago. They are going to charge around 125$ to check it out by tomorrow. However the guy said if the problem is serious, they would charge around 1000-1500 to open the engine and take a look inside. What do you guys think? Btw I'm sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but I don't know how to scan the code, will the dealership tell me what they found from their scanner?

If I'm paying $125 they better tell me what they found on the scanner.

most auto parts places will scan the code for free.

You can take the car to any autozone or advanced auto and they will do it for free, just ask. Did you try disconnecting your battery for 15 minutes. That will reset the ecu if your car went into safe mode for some reason. Without a code your just going to get a spitball of an answer from everyone because there is noway to tell for sure.
Did Midas change your spark plugs? Make sure your coil packs connectors are clipped all the way on. One time when I changed my plugs one of the clips was not firmly connected and the car did what you are describing.
Look to see if you can see any white areas on your exhaust system especially near the header. If there is you have an exhaust leak.
Spitballs all.

Exhaust leaks are harmless though, right?

it wouldnt be white, it would be black. if it was white, you have more problems!

Exhaust leaks are harmless though, right? Not all. If the leak is before the O2 sensor/CAT it can cause problems.
check your battery and tighten it. I've been in a similar situation and it was because of my battery.I think the engine light also comes up if your battery is not tight enough.

Did you by chance put Nos (the energy drink) in your car?

So I just got my car back from the dealership and this is what they said the problem was:
1.After running tests, they found out that cylinder #1 has 0 compression. The rest of the cylinders have compression of 185. So technically the first cylinder is gone.
2. They found that engine has bent valves
3. It's is also possible that the clutch has bent plate
Solution they gave me was: get a new engine.
I still don't know if I should get a new engine or try to get a mechanic to fix it by opening the engine. What do you guys recommend?

You can try and let a mechanic open it but if the cylinder walls are damaged (if there are any debris from valves damage is very likely) you'll need to get a new engine anyway.
I tried speeding up and all of a sudden I lost power.2. They found that engine has bent valves
3. It's is also possible that the clutch has bent plate
