So my trunk light has been out since I bought the car a little over a month ago, and I just got in a new LED trunk light. I go to put it in today and flip the switch, and still no light. Turns out the bulb that was in there was still good. I'm pretty sure that the fuse that controls this light is the same as the one for the dome light which works fine. I have no idea why the trunk light isn't working, so if anyone has any ideas or insight it would be really helpful.

Did you check to make sure the connection from the trunk light to the wire behind the plastic panel is intact. I installed some taillights for my friends celica this past weekend and his was not even plugged in. You will have to take out the back plastic on the rear of the trunk and the passenger side by the light. It might not be what is wrong but very possible. Let me know what you find, hope this helps.

Well finally after 2 weeks or so i got around to checking this out, thinking it was going to be an hour project. Turns out the housing for the light pops out of the rear plastic so there was no need to take that off. Low and behold mine also was not plugged in for some apparent reason. Who knows. Anyways after plugging the connector back in and putting back the bulb, it lights right up. Took all of 5 minutes. Thanks for the help guys ^^

Yea I never had this problem so I didn't notice the trunk light just pops out. I just noticed you can get to it by removing the interior plastics. Good to know if I run into something like this the whole housing comes out.

Glad you figured it out. LED is also the way to go! oh btw...does your LED stay on very slightly even with the hatch shut? mine does for some reason like the socket has electricity running to it 24/7 but at a very low voltage...

Yeah I'm just glad I got it taken care of because it was really bugging me.

I haven't noticed any light coming from it with the hatch shut, but then again I've never really checked it out^ There could be a problem with your sensor, or maybe it's not closed all the way...

Yea something is definitely not right, the only time mine stays on is when the hatch isn't shut all the way.

Wierd...Cuz both me and my buddies do that. Then again we both have the same LED bulb in there, could that be why?

Where did you buy yours from? It shouldn't light up unless the hatch is open.

Damn it now I have to go check again just to make sure.

Edit:
I just checked, as soon as the hatch closes the light goes off.

NOPE. Voltage is voltage. The switch that controls the lamp is more than likely the problem. Or the trunk sense switch.

I'll tell you...when I removed my trunk plactics the first time, I didn't know the light snaps out of the socket. If you pull hard enough, the harness pulls out. If you dont realize this until after you replace the panel and are too lazy to take it all back out......:wiggle: (I fixed mine)

Hmm...so wierd. Well I'm not saying its at its full brightness, it defiantly shuts "off" the light, except its got a VERY low light output when its "off". lol, i really don't care, the LEDs arnt going to drain the battery, especially using a fraction of the full voltage in the "on" position. If I put the stock bulb in, it turns off completely btw.

^^^Last night I saw what you were talking about, the trunk light turns on when the car is on. But it also cuts off when you turn the engine off.

I had the same thing. Was driving for years with no trunk light. Pulled the assembly out today - unplugged. Plugged in, working. Car was bought certified preowned. Must be a dealer thing, to come back for an hour or two of diagnostics.
