we used to have 15" rims with tires (i don't know the size)
and from A to B (place) it's about 5 miles
if we change the rims into 17" and 205/40 tires .... i'm wondering if from A to B will be the same 5 miles
or maybe more miles since the rims are bigger
in my opinion is the same, but my friends keep insist that it will make a different milleage
don't laugh .... this debate pissed me off
so i need to know what is ur opinion
thanks guys
If the outside diameter of the new tire is different fron the old tire, then your odometer reading will change.

The distance from A to B will not change. Your odometer however could read a diffence depending on whether or not the tire circumference changed from the 15 to 17 inch wheels.

it'll be the same provided that ur rolling diameter is the same... you could have a 1" rim w/ a 16" tire and it would be the same as having a 16" wheel and 1"tire...

You were right, this question is silly, you silly billy! :gay:
j/k
To answer your question though, if the tire diameter is changed, the amount of mileage the odometer reads may be somewhat different. I also heard from someone that you may have to re-calibrate your speedometer as well.

The 205/40R17 tire is smaller in circumference than the oem tire.
Therefore, it will take more rotations of the 17" tire to get from A to B than it would have with the oem.
Therefore, your odometer will indicate more mileage than actually travelled.
And your speedo will indicate a faster speed with the smaller 205/40R17's than it would with oem's given the same actual speed.
