1ZZ spark plug cover

Following the thread from the apperance forum, I have started fabrication on the 1zz spark plug cover, I know its been a while since last update. I have the basic design drawn and going to make some minor changes. I plan to extend the right side another inch to cover more of coil #4. Also need to alogn holes so bend does not distort them. last I want to make a cap to cover the left side of the cover. Here are some pics of design in progress.

Needs to be raised do the coils, they sit higher than the valve cover it self.

I have the first proto cut and bent, looking on a cap to cover the space/gap on the pass. side. I have to look for mounting ideas using the screws for teh coils, i have some ideas that might work. i might have to moce the bend lines to allow mor surface for mounting bolts. Its coming along though, I want to post pics but my cpu has some kind of virus and takes me like 30 minutes to upload and share. I think its time for a new cpu lol. I can send phone pics to someone if they are willing to post the pics?

LOL, dont know yet. depends on how i decide to fasten it to the valve cover. I will most likely provide zinc allen head bolts that will screw into and adapting bracket to the valve cover coil packs. Ill try to keep it low $$ like the 2zz that I made.

is it going to clear the hood? i don't think it would be a problem but i thought i should ask. i think the plastics would be about the same height. i'll do a test fit for you :D

the hood thing is my only concern right now. I hope it does clear it. Jin is my test guy for this as he is the one that provided the valve cover and packs to me.

Actually to be honest, it looks like it might have trouble clearing the hood. Or it'll clear, but if the engine moves it'll hit against the hood. There's not much room to play with there between the motor and the hood

yeh i dont think that gonna work as well also its kinda fail looking it should be flat.... that hump does not flow with the way every thing under the hood is.

you have coil packs that have to clear with the 1zz valve cover. you cant make it flat.....

im pretty sure it will clear the hood. i could go measure my engine plastic to see the height on that. because im sure the height is much more then the tin cover.

I did not have too much time to continue this during the week, I just got a promotion at work so i have been dealing with the transition. Again this is something thats going to move slowly. I only have so much time to do any fabrication at work. My co-worker did say he would cut one new one with a mounting bracket. Jin this one will prob come your way to check hood clearance.

It does look funny in the pic but I think it looks better in person, Plus its just plain steel, powder coated with the accented letter will make it look more flashy. well at least thats the plan.

OK mounting bracket and cover will be shipped to Jin on friday 11th to check for hood clearance. The cap still giving me problems but should have something shortly. If it clears the hood then most of the fabrication would be done. Bend lines have been drawn and specs recorded on brake press.

Jin take some pics if possible and post to get some feedback on looks and fitment.
There will be a bracket that gets installed on top of the coil packs. Then the cover will attach to the bracket to secure it.
Im on Vacation starting the 20th hopefulley I can get the final prototype done by so if clearances are good and start producing these my first week of July..

Again sorry for this process beign so long but this is side work from my reponsibilities at work.... Moving forward though not giving up.....

OK here is the latest, Jin just fiitted up the cover today and we are good on clearance from the hood and from the harness that comes out the back. Let me know what you guys think about the way it sits. I will be providing the mountain hardware once I become a sponsor again when im ready to sell. The hardware will be something different than the pics below to make it look more clean. So the lettering availability will be top 4 or 5 suggestions from you all here on the forum. One of those will be the TRD, throw out opinions, the more commmon ones will be the ones I cut so...... alright here are the pics,

Yeah it does look bad right now, Thats just a unfinished piece, It is just a piece of sheet metal with the letters cut out. It was just used for clearance of hood and harness. Hopefully when it gets coated it should look better. Thanks for commenting on it, Id like to get as much feedback as possible to make it the most apealing as possible.

I say cover up all the lil gap, but leave the oil cap open. i honestly don't feel like taking off the cover for an oil change every time.

just like adding antifreeze you have to pull that cover off to top off the bucket.

Ok, all done. So I will be making 4 diffrent logos. VVTi , TRD, supercharged, 1zz. Almost any color available. I need to get with larry about sponsor to set up sales. Price will be around $47 shipped. Depends on hardware, waiting on quote. Contents will be spark cover, bracket, 2 allen bolts for nice clean look. If I get these cut tomorrow at work I will post pics before weekend. Keep you all posted.
