I actually hit lift in 6th.

Coming back from a bar about an hour and a half away at 5am, me and my buddy (who just got an S2000), decided to open it up on the way home. Well, I was pretty much topped out at 220-225km/h (stock), until I started a long straight going mildly downhill. I ended up hitting limiter in 5th at ~230, and managed to work up to 240 km/h in 6th at about 7500 RPM. When the hill finished, dropped back down to around 230. Ended up doing 380 km on a tank when I usually do 520.

S2000 hit 264.

Insanity.

Oh and a racing story for the books, my friend let me drive his S2K on the way there, and some Civic SI Sedan with 18" rims and a burnt headlight pulls up beside me as we were doing ~130 km/h, with the 2 guys in the car wanting to go. My friend tells me, gun it, which, without hesitation I proceeded to do. You should've seen the look on our face when we weren't passing the civic. The civic actually gained a bit on us because I did a 4th gear downshift instead of a 3 (not my car). It took us until ~220 till we actually started gaining ground for the pass.

What's ironic is that we were just discussing about how when you drive a fast car, you don't bother racing all the civics and other cars you know you could just normally kill: until that Civic came along and shut us up. That was the first sleeper I've ever come across.

Oh...and I don't know what the Civic was packing... but we're pretty sure we heard a turbo spooling.

Crazy crazy night.

Wow!! cool, ive never hit lift in 6th. What speed is 6000rpm in 6th? Always wondered. BTW for those of you who dont know:

225km/h = 141mph
240km/h = 150mph (his top speed)
264km/h = 165mph (s2000's top speed)

thanks for the conversions. I was thinking about that while reading this.

150 mph, that's got to be a bit scary.

I'm not sure how fast 6000rpm is in 6th... when I shifted into 6th, I was already at 7000rpm and I wasn't slowing down for nothing!

hmm, you prolly would have had the civic from the start to finish if you would have downshifted into the right gear. Too bad. Prolly just boosted his ego :(

There is NO SUCH thing as a civic SI sedan... they only make SI in coupes... just correcting your bullshiet story.. you prett much lost when you didnt gain on them to begin with.. anyone can gain on someone after a certain amount of time.. but the point is you didnt gain on them at the start where you said they gained on you... so you lost buddy, any real racer knows that.. jus like any real racer knows they dont make four door civic SIs.. im not talkin shiet nor am i tryn to make you look bad, i just think ur story is all BS, and if u dont know what that means, it means BULL SHIET

oh and another thing, i dont think its possible to hit lift in 6th on the GT-s because i have a couple of freidns that have gt-s, 3 to be exact and all three of them toped out their cars in 5th gear, not 6th.. 6th is like an overdrive, not a real gear...

yup that is what i was gonna say...

Team yota, don't flame him. I believe in CANADA if you read his info...The civic Si is actually the civic EX here in the united states...so there is a civic SI sedan in Canada...

EDIT: Also i believe that if he had downshifted to the correct gear, he would have completely terminated the civic

i took my gts (stock back then) up to 140 back on a local straight away and it just wouldn't push any more.. i was in 5th and never put it into 6th.. both 5th and 6th are overdrive gears in the celicas..

true about 6th not being able to gain...but he did say downhill...so who knows.... I know I am not dumb enough to try it... 150 is too fast for me...i almost Sh!t my pants at 130.... f that

doesn't it also depend on the terrain? if he was going downhill wouldn't it be possible to hit lift in 6th depending on slope grade?

i was just about to say the same...as far as i know canadian Si = american ex and canadian SiR = american Si (but somehow all the ricers near me have gotten ahold of "SiR's" too...haha...even saw one neon that thought it was one).

si is a b16 dohc egine,,, civic ex is a 1.6 sohc engine.. so why would they call an EX an SI? SiR dont exist, theres no such thing, SiR is just a SI with a new logo in the back, the only make accord SIR and crx SIR , i think the crx SIR was relased in U.S. a long time ago but the accord SIR was never released in the U.S.

yes i also think if he downshifted to the right gear he woulda blew the civic away too BUT at the same time, he didnt shift to the right gear so he lost that race... do u get what im sayin? i dont doubt the car he was in coulda beat da other car, im jus sayin that he didnt.. i sure as hell think a s2000 can beat a ex, if it cant, thats one sad car.. im jus sayin that he didnt.. its jus a racer's input.. next time make sure u get the right gear and i wont open my big mouth to flame.. i flame to keep people on their toes, sumtimes u gotta be a jerk for people to understand..

i still dont think its possible to hit lift, becuz in over drive u dont hit dat high of RPM,, i think the 6th gear is overdrive, not 5th becuz u can still gain speed in 5th, its in 6th that u pretty much jus... go haha im startin to sound dumb but, someone has to explain itbetter cuz i mean jus cuz u goin down hill dont mean anything.. well not dat big of a anything..

maybe u're just going in high speeds down hill, it feels like you're hitting lift?

SlasherX
07-17-2002, 12:50 AM
i believe it if he was going downhill..just imagine the inertia the car is under at those speeds downhill.

thank god you're in canada, btw. in teh state's your ass would be in jail :D

I always thought overdrive was any gear with a ratio of 1:1, not if "you can stll gain speed"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that mean that 5th is also an overdrive as well since it is 0.916:1? And I'm sure going downhill at those speeds would help a little. There have been a few people on this board who have gained a few extra MPH in 6th.

team yota
07-17-2002, 12:13 PM
yea they gained a few extra MPH in 6th but did they top out every single previous gear? wut im saying is if you go on a str8 away and top out every single gear, u'll top out ur car in 5th, not 6th.. you get me?

as for the down hill thing, i still think he was going downhill at such a high speed it felt like he was hittin lift.. i dunno, celica should design a light or sumthing to let us know when we hit lift.. hahahaaaa squeezing when hittin lift would be oh so cooooool!!

Brett
07-17-2002, 03:33 PM
Yeah, When I was topping out my car, I topped out 5th at 140, when I put it in 6th gear I actually lost mph. I dont take it upto high speeds often, but cant you hit VVTL-i in 6th, just the problem is you dont really feel the cam switch-over?

ok... to correct a few things.

I'm sorry but I screwed up with the civic sedan thing, I meant coupe (the 2 door). I always confuse the 3 (Sedan = 4 door, Coupe = 2 door, Hatchback = well, Hatchback)

yota take it easy... what's bull**** in the story? I never said that I won the race, I would say that I did lose it, however I can say that the S2k would have pulled on it had I shifted into 3rd (when I shifted into 4th I fell below VTEC). That Civic was very fast. Even with a 4th gear downshift like I had done, I would have blown my Celica away.

As for the 6th gear not having lift, I honestly can't say. What I meant was I was above 6000RPM in 6th. This was one hell of a long straightaway downhill, and I hit limiter in 5th, and when I put it in 6th, I gained another ~9 MPH, all downhill. When the hill turned into a straightaway, I lost speed and it went back down to 230.

Just FYI, Yes they do called the America SI as the the Sir in Canada, Why? you can call the Canadian Honda Dealer and ask them why (I think is weird too), as for the CRX Sir, it was NEVER released in the North America, I know cuz my friend was trying to get one import from japan for his CRX.

I betcha that headlight wasn't burned out. Was probably the inlet for a cold air box or ramair setup, possibly for a turbo intake.

Yeah, if he was going downhill, he can go faster than you would normally be able to in 6th gear. going downhill adds to the amount of FORCE your car is producing because of gravity. lol. So yeah, it's possible....

And yeah, there are some sick fast civics out there.... more than a handful that can probably hand a C5 it's ass, much less an S2000...

Oh yeah, they DO make an Si sedan in canada. Because as explained before, in canada Si = our EX. SiR = our Si. So yes, canada has an Sir (which is that ugly little hatchback) and the Si, which is sedan or coupe...
