Well, if one were to run the car w/o an intake the engine would ingest all manner of things and ruin it. So one thing it does is provide filtration of debris.
It also enhances power, especially for four cylinder engines.
Another thing it does is act as a "filter" in that one can suppress periods of objectionable noise.

There are two camps to intakes, talking about short ram intakes now and not CAIs.
1) It allows more air into the engine, resulting in more power.
2) It does jack sh1t cause it is sucking in hot engine bay air which consists of less O2.
I subscribe to # 2 as I have track results to back it up.

In regard to Celicas, do you include the Blitz SUS or LM in the same camp as the Injen and RMM short rams?

It seems that only happens in selected cases. :)
