It has come to my attention that trd front bumper on the celica sits way to high and doesnt flow with the kit . I was thinking about retrofitting the trd front bumper as the picture below . I would like everyones input on this weather this would be a possible good alternative and if celica owners would actually buy this bumper modified like this.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d146/Frost7177/1-5-08_celica_cruise_010-1.jpg

The yellow celica is a stock trd front
The Silver Celica has a modified trd front

Is there any more picture of that Celica? IMO the add on modify lip look a bit weird.
But seeing more picture can be a bit different.

That looks pretty good. I also like this mildly modified TRD front lip.

Interesting. If we can get enough interest, we may be able to do/assist on something like this. Let me know Frost!

I was going to close this since it's a repost, but Extreme Dimensions is offering relevant help on the issue.

If you didn't know, that TRD front bumper (silver one) has a Civic Si lip.
Seeing how Extreme Dimensions has the resources, why not have them fit on lip and make a custom TRD front bumper like the one in the first picture?

Seems pointless to have a whole new bumper for us people with a TRD front already.

Why not just get/make a splitter?

If we did that, the only people that would be able to buy it would be those with the TRD front already. That pool would be too small to draw off of. Whereas if we went with an entire front bumper, anyone with a Celica can get ahold of it without having to purchase 2 seperate peices.

Xantonin made a good point actually.
Most people here, in socal atleast, have an oem trd front bumper rather then a replica. I'm very sure that if you guys made a additional lip or splitter, you will get more demand on that over a whole remodified front bumper.

xantonin
06-15-2010, 04:07 PM
Somebody should make a poll for interests on a splitter for the TRD front.

I know for one I would be interested. My primary reason is that once I lower my car, I want something more rigid to protect the front bumper in case I hit a bump or something straight on.

As an FYI, the TRD front bumper from Toyota is about $2,000 (I was told when I went in, at least). That's excluding a paint job. It's definitely something I want protected...

That's another route we can take but we are going to see how this plays out for the time being.

Our version of the TRD is under $200 and the fitment is excellent. This modded bumper may very well be more than that but it's still going to be less expensive than the authentic TRD front.

Myself and Ken was also talking about after I make the the intital bumper that they will make one in fiberglass and duraflex so it will be just as strong as a trd bumper but provide a lower stance with an aggressive look ontop of it.

I would be interested in an add on lip but not a whole new bumper. I wouldn't want to roll with a 2/3 authentic TRD kit and a replica front, even if it did look better.

FrostsCelicaGTS
06-16-2010, 08:19 PM
The lip cannot be just stuck on overtop the bumper must be cut the lip must be cut then molded.

vegeta4ss
06-17-2010, 10:18 AM
so the lip is too wide? that's the purpose for the molding? Or is the reason for molding simply that there's just no good way to attach it? <- if that's the case then I would think a series of slotted cuts and brackets would allow you to push the mounting points on the new lip to the inside. A diagram would definitely make this make sense better so i'll try to work on that soon.

This LIP is not something you can just buy online and place on the car and your done. The bumper will need to be trimmed cut in a section. And then the lip will have to be molded to give it then uniform stock look. Thats why Ken from extreme dimensions said that this is a full front bumper replacement. As for the people saying that having authentic sides and rear really is someone really gonna know except for the grill peices? Im gonna make sure the fitment on the first bumper is 100 percent just as good as your authentic bumper.

The Silver Celica has a modified trd front

The TRD bumper is fine as is. Its a matter of opinion that it "sits too high" THAT silver bumper would not go well unless you have different side skirts. OEM sides would look way out of place. It looks "heavy" and "bulbous". Once you start adding all that more plastic to the car it starts to look "ricey" (Another opinion)

How many people gonna be happy and want to spend that kind of cash for an entire kit once they realize the OEM side look like crap with that bumper?

Not me. :thumbdown

FrostsCelicaGTS
06-18-2010, 06:45 PM
If you look at the bumper now it actually lines up perfectly with the side skirts. Maybe you dont like it know but i know when people hated the 03 front and the 03 tails back in the day all it takes is on car and people will go nuts.;)

Will see what people think I do this Im sure extreme dimensions will other 2 different action package body kits one with the lip molded and one without along w the entire kit or could sell seperatley.

Extreme Dimensions
06-21-2010, 10:31 AM
The 2 different peices is something we can definitely look into but in order to do so, we would need two peices to work from. One complete and one lip only.

But like ive said before this LIP will not fit no way no how without cutting the stock TRD BUMPER! As does the one in the picture you posted or the others that a few have done.

We're not talking about garage liners being stuck onto the bottoms of bumpers - this is "go big or go home."

I am glad to see someone else getting involved. Way too late in the Celica game, but always nice to see new ideas (that are clean - I don't care for ricer shet. )

(I still don't like a stock 03+ front, it has to have a lip)

Back in the days, the 03+ tails were too pink, too gay. The 03+ front was ugly because it was too "sharp" compared to the softness of the -02 front.

Well i got the front lip in today. I dont know if its the correct one. It does not wrap all the way around the TRD front. it is the 99-00 civic type r front. Maybe I got the wrong year or needs major modding to get it to fit and flow correctly. If anyone has any info on this let me know. ill sleep on it till the weekend before ill mess with it.

Someone posted a direct front shot of it before.

horty222
06-04-2011, 06:41 PM
so like I said the lip does not reach from end to end. So some fabrication will have to be made. Basically either cutting it half in a way that the lines have some flow. which will make the lip come from the sides countouring into the middle. Or getting more material, cut in half and extend it to reach all the way around. Last option is FORGET it and scrap the idea. here are some pics of the potential. What do you all think?

Or as we seen the silver Celica with an RSX type R front lip.
