i know there has been many posts of this but i jus can't do it....... i've only done it once on the 1 - 2 shift......... i can hit the 2 -3 all the time but i jus have trouble with the 1 - 2 ....... when i shift my car jerks foward and i always land at the 5800 or 5900 marker......and when i try to shift at 8300 i sumtimes hit that cutoff...... it pisses me off! do yall think that the jerking has sumthin to do with it? perhaps i should tighten my throttle cable? i keep on practicing but i can't hit it.......

You need to slip your clutch a little more instead of just dumping it. If you look at the gearing in the Celica, it is mathatically impossable to land in lift during a shift. The only possable way it can be done is by slipping the clutch out.

Yes, slip the clutch when shifting into second.

Like I said, it is literally impossable to land the 1 to 2 shift above the 6,000 rpm lift point without slipping the clutch. You can practice every day, all day, and at the end of an eternity, you still won't be able to land the shift in lift. The gearing of the Celica is to tall to land at 6,000 rpm, even if you shift right at fuel cutoff.

And yes, slipping the clutch does wear it out. But if you are interested in prolonging the life of your clutch, you should never race, ever. Even shifting when the car is at redline withtout any slippage at all will put a very significant amount of wear on the clutch.

some people swear that they could land in lift without doing anything special (slipping clutch or power shifting). but, in my opinion, its impossible to land in lift without slipping clutch.
the closes i came to was 5800rpm (with my trd short shifter).

What do you all mean when you say "slip the clutch"?
