Was bored today so I decided to make a grill, since I'm sure my radiator was tired of eating rocks and sticks. How does it look? Do you think it looks good as is, or should I spray it black?

My friend gave me a MUCH better idea than painting it just black. I'll post photos up next week of my plan. It's gonna look like :hitit: when I'm done.

I cut out a 34"x10" rectangle, then bent it to a general shape until I was happy with the bend. I then cut all the excess off, leaving only tabs which I used some small screws to secure it to the lip. It took me quite a bit of elbow grease and wrestling, but I really like the result.

Since I've got to take it off anyway, I'd be glad to cut out some templates and mail them. Just drill 8 small holes and you've got a new grill.

if you paint it black, be aware that the bending will cause the paint to chip

Are u serious? You don't even have to take the bumper off to install it. I put mine on in < 10 mins.

I say buy a OEM cos the mesh looks cheap in contrast to the upper grill. If you are gonna keep it paint it black so it's less noticeable.

I think it looks good, but I agree with the black paint.

I'm not buying an OEM grill. Why in the world would I have done this first?
In my opinion, the 1/2" plastic looks cheaper than 1/4" metal...

nice and simple if you take the time to fold it nicely

That's fine....But I hope you plane on replacing the upper grill with the 1/4 metal to match. If not it will look retarded and like a 5 yr old done it. I personally think most will disagree about it looking better if they agreed then why has everyone said to paint it black so it doesn't show up............

I'm going to paint it black. I said that in a post earlier, but I'm not going to only paint it black. That's where the idea my friend gave me comes in.

And if you want to talk about matching, a silver lower grill would match the silver Toyota emblem against the black upper grill. So silver or black, it "matches".

ummm no it won't match no matter what color you paint the lower grill if you stay with the 1/4 mesh on the lower and the oem plastic on top. If you are going to cheap out and use mesh on the bottom use the mesh on the top as well to make it flow and match.

Hey guess what, I'll decide what looks good and what doesn't on my car. I get it, you don't like 1/4 on the bottom and OEM on top. I don't appreciate you calling parts on my car 'cheap' when it took me a good amount of time and work to do it. I honestly don't cafe if you think it matches or not. So you can keep complaining and whining but it's not changing what I do on my car.
I am keep the 1/4 on the bottom and OEM on top for now.

Worry about your own damn car.

Black. Silver grills are ugly - stands out too much.

Don't get your panties is a wad. I didn't say your work efforts looked bad. I said if your gonna go with the mesh don't has a$$ the job and do the top as well. Chill out take abreak and smile :AF:

I'm sitting outside listening to a free band drinking a free beer, trust me I'm smiling haha!
I've just read so many posts shooting down people's custom parts, I guess it finally got to me. I'll probably replace the top grill, also. I just want to finish one part at a time.

That mesh looks pretty thin and soft. If it is, the wind will bend it back...
