View Full Version : the diff between gt and gts turbo kits?

it seems like everyone with a gt whines about a gts turbo or vice versa. Last time i checked (last week) the 1zz and 2zz use the same exhaust manifold gasket (i.e. same flange), and have the same engine position in the chassis, both use returnless fuel systems...which all common sense would lead you to believe...IT WOULD BE THE SAME DAMN KIT. Only diff is you could probably run more boost on a GT due to the lower compression. I run 10 everyday on the 1zz in my mr-s but i have run 14 without blowing up just yet. :)

how much was your kit?
how long have you been running 10psi for, and do you drive your car hard everyday???

its homemade....since people ask me all the time how much it would cost, i went to 2 local shops and asked how much it would cost to replicate...they said about $7-9k.....but i paid only $1700 since i did all the fabrication and quite a few of the parts were free.
I drive the car pretty hard, its been hot out lately so ive mostly been beatin on it at night. Havent started losing oil or getting low compression yet.

is that 12.6 on 10 psi or 14psi?
do you drive your car hard everyday and how many miles have you put on it so far?
what was your 60 foot on that run?

10psi w/ a 2.0 60'. I was bogging it every launch b/c my clutch slips like crazy if i launch over 4k rpm. It was also 90* out so im going to run again w/ a new clutch on a cool night. without changing anything id like to nail a 12.4 then at least a 12.0 on the stock motor.
Ive been turbocharged since 10k miles and the car now has 24k. Its my daily driver and its been reliable even in the snow.

i think you should get the blitz active clutch.
i believe they have it for the mr-s and it comes with a lightened flywheels and the clutch.
its a 4 puck clutch with springs for slipping it easy.
it grabs like no other and im sure you could put it to use with your setup.
you have any pics of your car? and the turbo set-up:)

i posted some pics in this thread http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31647
I originally had a JDM kit from Power Enterprises on the car but i sold it within 3k miles b/c it was too damn small then i made my own which i should have done the first time. Im working on a new manifold w/ a tial 46mm external wastegate, water/air ic, and working on a new motor b/c i want to run ~18psi next year.

actualy I do believe the flange is different, the angle of the engine is different and ofcourse all the piping would be different as well becuz of the angle of the TB

Has anyone asked you on Spyderchat to make them a turbo kit?

ive been asked but i dont really want to produce anything b/c I dont want to hear about it if someone doesnt install something right or just rips down the street and blows up their motor b/c they didnt do anything about the fuel system. Theres too many variables that i dont want to get involved with.

Great points! The throttle bodies are definitely in slightly different locations. Also, the GT has more room between the engine and firewall. GT turbo setups usually have piping that comes up from between the engine and firewall and over the engine. The GT-S most likely doesn't have enough room for the piping to be routed like that. T piping for a GT-S turbo has to be routed under the engine.
