Hello all,

Rather than inundate this forum with questions, I thought I'd save em up and post em all in one post. Thanks again for any insight you can offer....

Dave

1. Spoilers. I see (most) spoilers
as no more than gaudy decoration. There is nothing finer
than the sleek look of a supra twin without the spoiler. Has anyone removed their spoiler from their celica? How does the car
look without it? How do you plug the holes?

2. CF hoods. Do CF hoods provide some advantage other than
looks? Does the weight savings amount to anything practical?
I think I may install one just to avoid worrying about small
rock chips. Does anyone have a picture of a CF hood on
Carbon blue?

3. Can you tell the difference between synthetic oil and
natural oil by looking at the dipstick? my 2000 gts has
25k miles on it. I bought it from a reputable honda dealer. I would
ask them what type of oil it has but I doubt they know. They
couldnt even find the trunk release when I sat in car on the
lot and asked them where it was (I found it)

4. If CAI gives more power, then why do people install short rams?

5. What is this fascination with clear markers and tail lights? Is
this some European fad?

6. I kinda like the warm orange glow of my dash, but I would
like white faced indicators of the indiglo crowd, any suggestions?

7. My headlights produce a nice wide beam of light that cuts off above a certain height, but there are two "spots" that shine upward toward the center. is this normal?

8. Are there any owners/meets in the Boston area?

I am traveling to Boston on business tonight for an overnighter and I will be back there on the 29th through the 31st. I'd be more than happy to discuss your questions with you on your own turf. I leave here at 5:10pm and get there around 6:30. Give me a shout around the time I get there tonight or whenever. 540.379.6161. The name is Jay, by the way.

1. IMO, the Celica looks incomplete without a spoiler. Almost like the rear of a 350Z, but without the smooth, curved drop off.

You can probably get rubber plugs to plug the holes, or you can take it to a body shop and have them fill them in for you (obviously more expensive)

2. I think they weigh in the neighborhood of 15lbs less than the stock hood. If you're going for weight savings, you should definitely consider it. Everything adds up after a while.

Yes you will get rock chips justl ike a regular hood, but they won't be as noticeable. Most of the chips will only go through the clearcoat, anyway.

3. Doubtful.

4. They are afraid of hydrolock (CAI sucking up water into the engine and destroying it). I haven't heard of any incidents of hydrolock because of a CAI on this board.

5. People like 'em. :) I put clear bumper lenses on my car because I wanted to get rid of the ugly orange stock ones. I also painted my stock orange turn signals silver (orange light still shines through, reflects silver in the housing when off). Plus, I redded out the orange turn signals on my tail lights.

6. If anyone knows the answer, please share! :) I want 'em too! :D

7. That's normal. It's more apparent with lower quality headlight bulbs whose beams aren't focused as well as the stock bulbs.

1. they are more or less just there to catch your eye, maybe if the car was pushing speed of over 150mph, then it may help, but i think in the celica's case, it mostly looks.

2. cabor fiber, less weight, the faster you go, but taking the stock hood off, and replacing it with a carbon fiber hood, you may not feel much difference... maybe a little. now if the whole car outside of the celica was made of carbon fiber, it would fly!

3. i dont know if you can tell from just the dipstick, but i would run syn5w30, good for high rev'n car's like the celica.

4. just depends, on the person i guess. anythings better than the stock box.

5. ? i like them on other people rides, but not mine...

6. i've seen people with them, ahhh just ask around.

7. dont know.? sorry

3. Can't tell the difference by looking

4. CAI's also run the risk of water injestion when driving through deep puddles.

5. European cars don't have sidemarkers like the US cars. They just have a fender turn signal. Companies call them "Euro" because it sounds cool.
