View Full Version : Project Celaru STi
Girodisc

So the day has finally come. I have 41 pics of Celaru goodness for you and I will be posting them all. So after just under 5yrs from the idea of craziest thing being thought up and then 4yrs of working on and off.
1yr of fab work by stripping an STi to bare steel and cutting the top off. Then stripping a Celica down to bare metal and cutting the floor out while braced and sitting on a lift. Then putting the front part of the STi on an old 1930s hospital bed and setting it into place by lowering the Celica down on to it. Then spending literally 2 days measuring and checking and setting to make sure it was set square into the Celica. Tacking it into place and then doing the same with the rear frame rails. Then about 2-3 months of welding then pieces together and seam welding the underside checking the car again and again to make sure it wasn't warping from the welding.
Then about 2yrs it sat while we collected parts and let the hype die down because word of the project leaked out and there were people asking questions and of course speculating that I was in idiot and I ruined 2 cars etc...
And finally what you have seen over the last year and few months. The assembly of the car once the welding was finished. From assembling an Engine, to fabricating a fuel system, exhaust, intercooler, and many other parts completely from scratch. Modifying a Wiring harness, re-doing the brakes, and upgrading almost every part to be able to handle the type of power this thing was going to produce. All while fooling you all it was a Subaru... Its been a long road. Not continuous there have been many other things I have done along side this but after 4 years I am finished with it. I can finally stop saying "I should be working on the Celaru". I can finally go to sleep with out spending many nights awake thinking of a way to make or install something for it. Finally I will be able to put a car that I own on my lift after 2 years.
So here it is the finished Celaru. Now I know its not totally finished but my work is done. It is ready to be tuned as soon as it gets a driveshaft.

Wow, it's trurned out incredibly well. I love the rear deck and rear quarters, looks like some kind of exotic, supercar almost, it wouldn't be out of place alongside a Lambo or Ferrari. I can't wait to see this reach completion. Huge pat on the back for seeing it through Johann and good luck with all your future projects.

im not questioning her driving skills, Its just that this is kind of ironic that a subaru was extremely modified to appear as a celica, which as many of you know people call a chick's car. I appreciate the work for its uniqueness and its a great thing that has been done, but it just makes me a little upset when i realize it was done for a woman to make a car faster but keep its woman reputation. I dont actually even think the celica is a womens car... but allot of people do. That and the fact that the builder is really not getting anything of monetary value (its an ex girlfriend, it appears to be more on the side of a favor)... i get slightly upset because there was so much time and effort put into this car.

No ones bitching and no one is trying to be a "badass"
What is "badass" about defending gender equality?
Your logic makes for a childish argument.
Can you honestly tell one legitimate reason why SexKitten is less deserving of this car than any one else?
Nothing wrong? uhhh... I believe gender discrimination is definitely an issue here.

Yeah.... Its been a while since I checked up on this thread or any of the other ones for that matter. I have no idea whats going on with the car or if it even has a driveshaft yet. Last time I saw it or spoke with Erin was the day I made the dummy shaft so I am betting nothing has been done to it since. In all honesty I am thinking its about a 10% chance that this car will get finished this year, and about a 40% it will get finished at all. She got the deal of a lifetime for the work I did but she still has a long way to go and now its going to cost her big bucks since I am no longer working on it.
Drieshaft
Tuning
Body Work
Interior Work
System (if one is going in)
Alarm (she's gonna need one)
Alignment/ Corner Balancing
Paint etc...
I'd say she is easily 7-9K away from the end goal of having this car tuning and painted driving down the road. Its a cool car but I have moved onto brighter and better things. Just got my Lego all finished and its waiting to get tuned and my new GF just got a 2000 Impreza RS so the BF bennies can begin again haha.
I am sure once she gets something to update about that this will be the first place she posts unless, you guys keep filling this thread with **** about a girl not being deserving or whatever.... You want to talk about the owner deserving this car then post something up in the OT section and leave this thread to the car...

Yeah that's kinda of the difference with most and Celica guys. The donor STi was 9500 alone, not to mention there is almost 10K in the engine and assembly work alone. Offering her 10K is a joke. The suspension is fully modded to the price of 6-7K and the wheels and tires an additional 4K, That's not including the APR Kit, the Celica itself, and the thousands of little parts needed to complete this car (exhaust, intercooler system, fuel etc). The Celica is a cheap crappy car imo so naturally you would think the car wouldn't be worth much in none running for and its also know that you would never get the labor rate our of the car nore would you even come close to whats been put in it. However this is not a Celica anymore, its an STi so it would be sold as an STi. There is more custom one off stuff in this car then most and the price to make custom stuff to handle that kind of power is not the same as some cheap little Celica bolt-on part. It may not be finished but I would say this car would part out for close to 40K on its own since everything in it is pretty much brand new so 10K for a 1 of 1 car that has this much power finished or not is laughable. Maybe its just my pride talking but if she tried to sell that car in is current state for anything less then 30K then there would be some words... If she sold it at all in its current state instead of parting out in the beginning and wasting over a year of my time then there would be some recourse for sure let me tell you.

Let me preface the following comments with this: I fully believe that the owner might have spent $40K on the car. That being said:
Value wise the whole is almost always worth far less than the sum of its parts, and you will NEVER recoup your investment unless you are building on a platform that is rare. That car is a total basket case right now. $10K is actually fair IMO considerign we don't know you from adam. It doesn't run and drive and it looks like ass. The owner would be much better off spending what it takes to finish the car, getting some magazine coverage, and then selling it.

i think a large problem with it is there's no way for the buyer to know exactly what needs to be mechanically to get it ready, as its a 1 of car.
that being said, i do believe that 10k isn't reasonable, but 20k may be.

Ether way there is far more then 40k into this car I assure you. However I believe you would still loose out pretty bad even if she did finish it and then got all the mag coverage unless she found a guy that had to have it. I think the only way this car could recoup its value is is she use it to get sponsors for upgrading systems and selling off whats in it. Basically rebuilding the car with sponsor parts and selling what it was originally installed on it. Or possibly to get a name for yourself and to generate sponsors for new projects but since she didn't built it those don't really apply (to her at least). I would like her to get it done and finish it so at least I can see what it would done and use its numbers and exposure to further my name and reputation. For projects, this one its one of the best but I have crazier projects currently being worked on and planed.
That being said I hope she finds the time and money to finish it and get it out in the world for all to see. I have gotten all the use I can out of it for myself in its current state and seeing how she has neglected this thread from updates and its resorted to comments such as whether or not she is deserving of it and now its value this will be my last post regarding this car on this thread. I thank you all for for you kind words while the car was under going my portion of its creation and I hope for all our sakes she finishes it and its as insane as I originally envisioned it would be.

You have the most pointless posts i have ever seen. I realize i'm being a douche.... but at least im saying my opinion. You never have anything good to say.... most of the time its a quote with a single period. You correct people on their grammar, yet you go and make mistakes on yours. You are not even a moderator, i really cannot figure out what is up your ass to make you think you "won" the internet. Your a person sitting behind a computer screen, just like everyone else. Instead of finding another childish way to insult me or anyone else, listen to what people have to tell you and stop being such a belligerent *******.
got halfway through reading that and called the whambulance. they should be there shortly.

I'll update it for Johann from the Maxwell side of things, it's running currently and waiting to be picked up. The "custom" driveshaft turned out to be a stock length STi drive shaft, which is like 3 inches too short.
I do believe the car is waiting to be picked up since it's now running.

MWR has a 880whp drag celica. So I doubt this will be the fastest

^+1 plus its kind of hard to call it a celica. i mean there are tube framed "celica" dragsters that are run 6's...

Why? The last update I see is this:
