So being the smart person that i am i totally did not look up the forums before i installed my aftermarket head unit. But for most other cars its pretty much plug and play so why would i even need to worry about modding my harness, but like everything with the celica it has to be pretty darned tricky.

SO i ended up with a Metra harness that works but picked up that annoying ass alternator whine and pretty much every other horrible noise out there.

NOW BEFORE YOU DO THIS I RECOMMEND YOU READ THE FORUM ON THE TA-03 mod being if you get the best kit it is much easy. this is more for the people who bought the damn metra and too LAZY to return it like me. LOL.

link here (http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94942)

SO your stuck with the Metra harness. and you know that you got to add resisters and ground those little hoes. so here we go.

The Metra harness RCA wires actually already have resistors not sure how many ohms but working with the 1900 stated in the TA03 thread mine worked out fine.

THE INSTALL

WHAT YOU NEED.
1. soldering iron
2. Crimpers
3. X-acto knife or wire splitter whatever you have.
4. shrink wrap or electrical tape.
5. wires.
5 resistors your specific ohm.

1.CUT your 4 RCA chords closest to the harness. You'll actually be cutting the original resisters. MAKE SURE TO LEAVE a tiny bit of metal sticking out because you will need it. ALSO cut the 5th wire which is the ground wire attached to the 4 RCA chords. that ground wire has another wire coming out of the same pin LEAVE THAT you need it for the resisters later.

2. GET WIRE. Solder on wires to the four ends of the harness that you just cut off. those little tiny things i asked you to leave on the harness.

3. at the other end of the wires you JUST soldered on tie on your resisters leaving ample room on the split ends to crimp onto another wire. (resisters depend on your HU voltage go to original TA05 Post for calculator.CLICK HERE (http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=94942)

4. after you put a resister on each end of the wires you JUST soldered on. crimp another wire to each one. electrical tape or shrink wrap the area exposed (where the resisters are attached to the wire.

5. Next crimp the new wires attached resisters to the four RCA chords you cut off.

6. take all four resisters twist them together and solder them to that little ground wire i told you not to cut before. Electrical tape or shrink wrap all the exposed areas.

7. next you will need to solder on a wire to the cut original ground wire for the RCA chords and crimp that wire to where it originally connected to the RCA chords.

DONE.

I KNOW this is confusing without pictures. BUT this is meant for those who read the original thread and still ended up with the metra. BASICALLY FOLLOW the directions on the original thread with slight changes that i listed here for the Metra due to the Metra having no exposed pins and would need extra wiring.

I did this yesterday and everything sounds great i hope this helps. I do wish someone wrote this when i was trying to figure out how to do this.

I KNOW i was pissed because

I was taking pics in the beginning but forgot to take pics as i continued doing it because i was caught up trying to get stuff right. :sadpace:

I am planing on redoing the process sometime later and take pictures.

The only reason why i wrote this still was to clarify the difference and what should be done because of it. Just in case some one was about to kill themselves from all that sound.
