TRD rear lip fab opinions/help

So I've had a replica trd rear lip sitting around for a while that I got for free off a local guy and have been putting off getting it fitted and painted. I had an idea last night while doing some fitting to cut the lip straight down where it starts to come around to the back and just have the 2 sides of the lip and not the center.

Has anyone done this before??

Doing this would basically make it like a different version of the vizage rear. It would also reduce the amount of drag that the rear lip causes from the center portion hanging down lower than the stock rear.

If anyone has pictures of this or could photoshop this for me (I'm terrible with photoshop) that would be awesome.

it hasn't been done before, but the idea has been talked about.

if you clean it up nicely, you could even mimic the Molly Designs rear aprons, just without the middle bar.

just shipped someone a 'cut up' trd rep rear lip actually with that same idea in mind. the photochop of the look doesnt look too bad if done right AND with the right color. i think darker is better, but that might just be me. i actually started one of those discussion threads and a few people photoshopped some ideas there. just do a quick search for split trd rear

Thanks for the info. I read through that thread and got some good ideas. I don't know if I want to attempt the molly look. I think it would be too much of a pita to remove that diffuser and get it looking smooth. But I'm definitely thinking about it now.

I think if you cut the trd so that it leaves two end caps, itll look more like the sports m end caps....

There is a member on here who actually did a modification to the trd rear. He cut the fins off tho. Check it out....

you'd have to do some extra glassing to clean off the endcaps if you imitate the SportsM.

Yeah I would definitely glass along the sides to make it flush.

I haven't decided if I want to cut out the fins or not. Since I have to glass the sides though, I might just go ahead and cut them out and glass it smooth.


I think they would look good in black also. I'm also thinking about possibly laminating them in carbon fiber....

damn you Franky, why did u say that, thats what i'm in the middle of doing :faint::laugh, except im not using fiberglass, im use the same plastic/urethane and get it melted to a flat flush surface. :gap:

It definitely seems to work better on a dark colored car.
