I know these pics were discussed before...but my question is..what are they planning on racing in?

Here's the link:

From the looks of it, more like track racing that drag.

They won't be racing it in any national level SCCA classes, there aren't any for cars with those kinds of modifications.

They could race it at autocrosses in E Modified or Street Modified, where it would get killed.

In road racing, they could race it in some of the local "Unlimited" classes, where assuming equal drivers, it would get killed.

Still, it's a cool project and I wouldn't mind if it were my car.

Was wondering what kinds of cars race in those classes?

i would assume the same as autxr, but this is hotchkis...let's give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they can tune a supercharged celica's suspension as well as they tuned their 'stock' celica's suspension to bust out those crazy lap times at buttonwillow. and hard to assume equal drivers if the guy who designed it is also driving it, and his name is john hotchkis.

Lets see...

I've seen a Cosworth rally escort running in a local "unlimited" class. More power, more suspension, more traction...

If a prepped car is there, the Celica is sunk, lets look at the car for what it is. Odds are, whatever class it is in, I could show up in a 1800 pound tubew frame Porsche 911 turbo and run in the same class.

I'm not counting Hotchkis out on this one. I think that car is going to rip up a lot of stuff that alot of people would never expect.

Kinda similar to what has happened with the currrent Hotchkis tuned Celica.

It was a real wake up call to see just how well setup that suspension system is/was in the Hotchkis Celica.

I'm gonna wait to see what they can do with this car as well, because I'm willing to bet it'll surprise alot of you.

But the point is, there is NO national sanctioning body that runs cars with the kind of prep the Hotchkis Celica has.

Hotchkis Celica with only suspension upgrade and exhaust beat a Evo 7 with 100 more HP, 4wheel drive on a race track by 1 second on SCC tests.

With more boltons and engine mods I think the Celica is definately a giant killer. I don't doubt Hotchkis at all.

Which Hotchkis car are you referring to, the full-race red one, or the more mildly modded white one? Just wanted clarification.

What about the speed challenge, or the motorola cup, or the mazda series. There are couple of different race series that it could compete in. And truthfully, Hotchkis is MUCH more likely to run in one of those series than in an auto-cross type event.

He's talking about the RED S/Ced one.

I'm talking about either of them. Hotchkis has very nice and very fast project cars. They lap tracks quickly. On the othe rhand, they also just throw parts on them to demostrate a little technology - with no regard to a governing bodies rules. The cars will likely be much slower in some kind of race trim.

Motorolla Cup (no longer in existence) - is now the Grand American Road Racing Series. Hotchkis might be able to petition them to allow the Celica in the GT class, but it isn't currently on the list of eligible cars.

Speed World Challenge - the supercharged car would have to go into the GT class - where it *might* even be sort of legal. Of course they would have to run on Toyo STREET tires, and the car would no longer be the handling champion of the world.

It would also have to compete agains the Realtime NSX (no small budget there), and the factory Audi's (yeah, they have more money in one car the Hotchkis has in the entire corporation...). There is also teh difference between lapping fast, and running in traffic. I'd like to see it happen, but I don't think they would take anyone by suprise.

What Mazda series would they be eligible for (obviously not spec RX7, or the formula mazda).

I'm not sure about the Mazda series, it was new to me but it seemed to be a namesake series, not a spec series, but I could be wrong.

I also think that if they consider to race the car it wont be till next year. So petitioning is still a viable option. I'm not saying they are going to race but if they did there are options available. They are not dead-end cars. Also consider that the set-up that we see is not neccesarily the one they would us at the track.

So a pack of dogs defnding there young, I dont know about that. I just think it's pretty obvious there are options available. Like I cant see why the White Celica couldn't run in the lower Speed World Challenge class. Whether it will do well is a different story.

Well let me comment on this now...! The Red S/C Cleica is a "Project Race Car" which would put it in a race car category by itself.. Meaning the car would and will compete in a handfull of events that will allow it to enter due to it's aftermarket specs, and not its make or model type.... The car will also compete in the DRAG circuit..( I still don't know as of yet)... That car will never see an auto x event... Too much power...! Over 300hp by the time it's done.... Auto X cross events benefit a car where the power band is constant and the car can be nimble yet quick... You don't want a car with high top speeds on a course that is for auto x.... You're defeating the purpose..!

Thanks for the comments JC. That's the kind of race class I expeceted (unlimited, local, run what you brung). understand your concerns about autocross, but I'd disagree with you on your assessments.

The Z06 guys don't mind autocrossing a fast car. I've seen 600hp Supras tearing it up out there too.
