And I quote!
"After this test we're convinced toyotas 2ZZ-GE is the best sounding four cylinder engine in production. Banging off downshifts in this car couldnt be more rewarding."

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really like "compliments" like that. It's like those Toyota ads that exclaim that the Celica "looks fast." Kind of a superficial compliment, with no substance behind it. I personally don't care if the 2zz is the "best sounding" engine out there, I just want more power from it.

you have to admit that the sound of lift with an intake give you an erection every time. its the dopest sound, and i liek muscle cars :)

Yeah, I see what youre sayin keyshawn, but I will take any compliment I can get... and when I finally turbocharge my celi.... I'll take their complements then kick their ass.

i dont care if a car sounds good but i care if it has the power and performance to back it up. also i think the celica gts with an intake sounds like a honda ex with an intake.
the reason i say this is becuase my friend had a civic and i have a gts and both had intakes and at around 6500rpms teh civic made the same sound as the celica did when it was at high rpms.

i knew i will get some kinds of comment from what i said but if you had both cars and listened you will hear the similarities.
of course i am noway saying the ex civic is anything like the gts but the engine noise when revved at high rpms with an intake both cars sound similar.

wtf.......i have a friend w/ a ex w/ intake and it does NOT sound like lift w/ a intake at all......i havn't heard the the 2 sounds side by side cuz if i'm in lift, he prolly be 7-10 car lengths behind me;) ....but on a serious note though....i'v gone w/ him on his runz and i can seriously say that it's ssoooooooooooo not the same....that's just my 2 cents

Now I am convinced if God owned a car, it would definitely be the Celica GTS 6 speed.

IMHO, i think the celica will be one of the few real 'classics' (if you can call it that) from this sport compact market a few years down the road. such an enjoyable driving experience, like SCC also said "bitchin' chassis, screaming engine, who could ask for anything more?" :D
it's like the guys who restore those old muscle cars which mostly ran like 15s or 14s stock anyway....just for the hell of it cuz they liked it. of course the aftermarket is so huge, it might even be cheaper to make it faster, but who knows...maybe....in like 20 years the same for our cars....
when the average person thinks 'enthusiast', they don't think of fast and furious, or people at the drag strip trying to shave tenths off their ET, they think of those guys who spend their lives restoring the old 14-15 second cars to perfect 'stock' condition, even if 'stock' was mostly crap by today's standards.
Welcome to last month
I hATE when people say that **** ..... not everybody is on here 24/7:angry:
Our cars are beutifulll , Nice deep sonding .. kickin chasis, sweet 6 spd tranny , and lift is orgasmic. God does drive a Celica , with a kickass body kit, volks, (rumor has is he has turboed the GT-S with 11 psi) Turboed, lift lowered to 4000 rpm,and sticky tires with a nice hotchkis suspension balance.
Maybe one day when i go up there to see the big guy he'll pick me up in the celi , tell me to buckle up , Hits the pedal to the metal, AND HITS THE BIG LIFT! ..... heaven is gonna rock!

Wow, I'd love to hear that Civic. I have yet to hear an ex/hx that sounds anywhere near the Celica. Wow.... you sure it doesn't have a b18c5 swap or somethign like that.

i have experienced this type of attitude in newcelica but i guess its a given since when people write replys they are in the comfort of their homes and behind a computer screen which makes them think they are invincible and can talk smack to everyone. well these types of people just make me laugh ,all talk and no b,alls,. :)
well, that's the internet for you , where people can be what ever and who ever they want and act what ever and how ever they like.:)

The Celica does sound nice, but in the big scheme of things, it means next to nothing to me in terms of how I judge cars.

a honda ex???
the gts does sound like a gt under 6k but once it hits lift it totally changes.
after watching a few celica's on the dyno(for 4 hours) lift is a completly different sound when it hits.

The sound of a car may not be the #1 thing on anyones list.. and i highly doubt its #1 on SCC's list, but its just a wonderful addition the car. I mean would you really want to have a brand new car thats supposed to have good performance.. but have it sound like some old ass pos? its like adding an exhaust to the car.. yeah performance is number one on your list.. but sound is also a concern because you don't want something that sounds like crap.
I love the sound of the Celica.. its a very strong, and intimidating sound if you ask me. Sounds like a race car. Sometimes when i go through tunnels or under overpass's i have to give it a loud rev.. the sound is just sooo sweet and rewarding. Its just an addition to the car.. doesn't mean it has to be number one on anyones list.

Best "sounding"...*yawn*. Who cares about sound? Performance is what matters. So you guys now want the slogan, "Looks and sounds fast"? Good grief.

Yup... *yawn* nobody here has mentioned that this is a "nice addition" but that in the real scheme of things it doens't matter as much as performance.

So much damn negativity.
The car sounds great....better than great it sounds awesome. It'll sound even better when we've got some more power under the hood.
And yes...I'm perfectly happy with my "Looks Fast and Sounds Great" Celica....
Why don't you go have a "Less Filling, Tastes Great" brew...
Jeez...
Sound is as important as power, guys. If the engine sounds strained you will not use the power. You'll shift. How many of you have caned an Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari 360 Modena or a BMW M3 or M5? GREAT sounding engines in each one and every bit as intoxicating as being thrust back into the seat. What's cool is when you can combine the power with the sound quality. Ferrari does it. Well, sometimes. BMW does it. Porsche does it. As does a few others. The GT-S and ITR both sound fantastic - especially with a CAI. Similar yet different. The S2K sounds great, too, but as the speeds approach 9,000 rpm it begins to sound a bit strained - but in it's defense both the 2ZZ-GE and the B18C5 also begin to sound harsh at those speeds.

of course a simple solution to this discussion is just get a loud exhaust that will cover up the engine noise.:)

My bad. Not trying to be negative or anything like that. It's just my opinion. As far as engine sound goes, as long as it ain't too loud, I couldn't care less about it. I'd pretty much have the same reaction if, for example, a magazine proclaimed that the WRX had the most stylish-looking foglights in the industry. My reaction, of course, is: So what?

yes the celica sounds nice when it lifts... but its nothing special, a celica with a cai sounds pretty much like a rsx or si with a cai.

All i know is that when i'm driving and talking on the cell w/ my handless of course and i hit lift people sound shocked on how much our cars sound like performance monsters. They think i'm doing like a hundred when i'm just in second gear. Heck once my friend said it sounded like his aunts Ferrari which he has driven. Nevertheless I love my cars sound when i'm driving through a garage or tunnel and i dont think anyone else hear can complain about it either.
