my break in period ended recently and I've been wondering when I should get my oil changed. Someone told me if I were to get an oil change after the first 1000 miles, the car would run ALOT better. But isn't the scheduled maintainence at another time? I could have sworn it was either 1500 miles or 5000 miles for the first oil change. Anyways I am planning to take it into the dealer soon. How much do you think I will be paying for an oil change? Any ideas on when i should get it? Thank you so much in advance and im sorry for these bombardments of newbie questions.

just change the oil yourself. it's not hard at all. and you get to learn a lil about your own car.

dont know what the manufacturer recommends when the first oil change should be done at... maybe like 3000-5000 miles..

but you can change your own oil in under 30minutes , i believe toyto charges you about $40-$50 for a simple oil change and also they charge you to take of the skid pad underneath were the oil drain plug is.

i say change your own and be proud of it and save $30 or so doing it yourself.

wouldn't hurt to change it at 1000 miles. When a new engine is breaking in there it tends to be alot of metal shavings in the oil, and the sooner you get them out the better.

Yes I also recommend you get in the habit of changing your oil yourself, it'll save you alot of money in the long run.

My Toyota dealer only charges $22 for an oil change. Since they are less than a mile away from where I live, I let them change it.
I usually only have to wait about 20 minutes. :)

Yeah, and if you change it yourself, you can easily see them IN the oil. Your oil will look like it came out of a snow globe the first oil change. Mine did.
