I would guess that the 2004 would be very much similar to the 2003. From what we have heard the 2003 will differ slightly (new action package?). Also it will add a few more color options (yellow), HID's. Also, it will have drive by wire. The most important change for 2003 is the original rev-limiter has returned.

According to DD there is going to be a whole new body style which makes sense when you add it to the fact there is no more r/d going on at Rod Millen for this model Celica.

There hasn't been any more R and D on the 7th generation at RMM for like two years.

I doubt we will see a new body until at least 2005, we would have seen a new body model from Japan by now. Besides it would be silly to kill off a good selling car that early.

I believe that all new replacement is scheduled for either 2004 model or early 2005 model... Makes a lot of sense since Celica sales were down by 39% in 2001... so no, Celica is currently not hot selling model thats for sure...

If rumor about about the 2004 Supra is true, I bet the Celica will be given a facelift or discontinued.

WTF? They aren't going to discontinue a car that is selling as well as it is and is in it's 7th generation of production.

the celica platform is one that probably can't be discontinued if you're not stupid. you can basically turn it into anything you want, anything that is selling right now, and you'll get sales. like what they did for the 7th gen. the celica has been a mustang wannabe, a AWD turbocharged WRC champion, and a lightweight high revving 4 banger that eats up tracks like a honda Type R.

plus toyota uses it to test out most of their new stuff. so i don't see why they would want to get rid of it? they can test new sporty technology on it, and still sell a decent amount for something that isn't a corolla.

i think toyota is in a tough spot right now on how/when to change the current celica. i think it will be really hard to do a completely new design and top this generation, especially since they will be trying to achieve the same things that they've already achieved. a little more power easily tuned in, a few cosmetic options, better misshift protection, and the higher rev limiter are about all that need to be done. and it will still dominate the time sheets for everything in it's class. and look a ****load better to normal passerby.

Great points! I think that Toyota will make the Celica an even more economy-based car for the 8th generation, for two reasons: 1.To compete more with less expensive performance cars like the Sentra SE-R and the Focus SVT, and 2. To make sure there is NO overlap with the same market as the next generation Supra .

Making an even more economical car might mean a sacrifice in performance, and or refinement, however.

If it does say that on their webpage, they might mean just a new model (like GT and GTS), not a totally new car. I have heard, and i cannot guarantee that this is correct, that in 2004 a turbo AWD Celica will be available (maybe a GT-R?) pushing close to 250hp. Although like i said i don't know how true this is, it might just be someone talking out their ass, but that's what i've heard.

"Celica is expected to be redesigned for 2004, a year earlier than Toyota's usual five-year timetable calls for. The current new-for-2000 design should see no major changes in the interim, but Toyota will reportedly seek to boost sales by offering more over-the-counter performance, handling and appearance parts for Celica, developed and marketed by the Toyota Racing Developments (TRD) division.".....

...my bad, it wasnt from toyotas page.....it was from Consumer Guide's page......i got it mixed up....

This line suggests that Consumer Guide may not have accurate info.

I don't know what the big deal about the 3S-GTE is. Its a turbocharged engine, that's its main selling point. The 2JZ-GTE or SR20DET are better turbocharged engines.

That is the normal trend for cars. They become less and less popular over time. But it is selling comparatively well. Especially compared to the last generation.

Actually the 3S-GTE is a very strong engine capable of handling at least as much if not more than the SR20DET. There is a reason it have been around for so long.

Good point. It is selling MUCH, MUCH better than the previous generation Celica.

 F*ck!

I'm ready for a new car and want to get another Celica. I basicly want out of my auto and into a manual. If Toyota has a AWD turbo Celica that looks as good as this car does right now...I'll bike to work every morning and get my girlfriend a nice bike helment cuz I'll save all I can to jump all over that. I'm just pissed they're doing it in another 2 years!!!!

I want one nowwww....:bang:

I remember a cylinder 3 problem I was reading about with the 3S-GTE when moderately to heavily modified. I believe cylinder 3 ran lean and no one could figure out the problem. Anybody remember seeing something like this?

Disclaimer: Yes, I know the 3S-GTE is AWESOME. I love the engine too, if money permitted, it would have been swapped into my old 94 GT Celica.
