So if the toyota dealer at the time of sale did not tell me about the rev limiter issues from 2000-2001 differences in my 2002 doesnt that mean toyota owes me something? I mean they should of disclosed that issue with my celica in writeing before they sold me that car.

what do you think?
I think it makes it even more wrong that toyota is now going back to a 8350rpm cut off in 2003 where my is only 7900rpms. That extra 450rpms going into the lift would make my engine not perform like a 2000-2001 or 2003 .

i only have 6000 miles on my car i wonder if i can get my money back

That doesn't make sense. If they change the air filter, is that something that needs to be disclosed? It's not like it was a secret anyway. You should have test drove the car and put it through it's paces to see if it was what you wanted. And if you did, is the car now not the same car you liked enough to buy then? If you thought the car was great before, it's still the same great car. Nothing has changed with it.

:werd: That is what the dealership is going to say.

Get over it.

They owe ou NOTHING! Can you count to zero? that's what they owe you.

I challenge you to find an official Toyota document that lists a rev limiter. I've never even seen a redline advertized (just what is on the tach, but that is no guaranty either).

Hell, I want MY money back, Toyota sold me a car that revs to high. I WANT the 7800 rev limit, not this dangerous 8300 rpm one.

What are you talking about ????
Toyota just admitted it in the the last issue of car and driver or some car magazine!!!!!!

mmm I know where you're coming from, but still the car performs exactly as advertised. It still has 180 hp, and I've yet to see a commercial/advertisement/brochure that shows the driver pushing the needle past redline to 8300 rpm.

Unfortunately I'm sure you wouldn't have a strong enough case to get your money back, but perhaps with enough raising hell, your dealer would be willing to cut you a sweet deal on a trade in since your car has such low miles?

It's not like they admitted wrongdoing. They have acknowledged that the 2002 models differ from the 00-01 and that the 03's will be like the 00-01's.

I know you're disappointed, but you're gonna have to get over it and learn from it. Toyota "owes" you something...c'mon. :bs:

I agree that the 02 got the shaft and nothing can be done about it, but just to play devil's advocate: the gts has an advertised 180 hp at 7600 rpm...i dont think my 02 even revvs that high, and if it does it is questionable (too close to call from the tach). Do you think it is fair to claim 180 hp on the 02? I miss my 00.

I do know one thing, having the peak horepower spec'd that high refutes all the arguments that dealers give owners about revving their car that high.

I have an 02 GTS and I feel the same way that you do about the car...I wish there was something that we could do to either get the Rev Limter fixed or like someone said try to trade the car because you only have 6k miles...I only have 5k miles and because of that Rev Limiter i want to trade mine to...I just don't think that it is fair for the 02 to be the only celica with the rev limiter set at 7800 or what ever it is set at...The bad news is i traded a 00 celica gts for the 02 that i have now...I think that it would be great for toyota to fix the problem and if you find out that they are going to do something about this please let me know...for what it is worth i am going to call them and see what they have to say about this, or see if there is anything they will do for us 02 owners at all...

Yup - I posted the wiring diagrams and instructions months ago. Its not hard if you have a reasonable amount of mechanical aptitude.

Despite this fact I don't know why everyone else gets so tense when the 02 owners get upset by this. The test drive argument is bull**** because you arent supposed to exceed 4K rpm in the first 1K miles of operation according to teh owners manual. I've had an 00 an 01 and an 02 (all GTS) and let me tell you something, there is a BIG difference in performance, especially with shift timing and passing on the higway. Basically 3rd and 4th gear suck ass now because you have 600 less usable rpms pf passing power which equates to quite a few MPH. I don't think theres anythign wrong with the 2002 owners asking Toyota to help them. I mean they may not get it but whats the harm in asking? Toyota screwed up, the right hand didn't talk to the left, they gimped out their premium sports car, and when they finally figured it out they admitted it and fixed the 2003. They are a customer satisfaction driven company and most likely the ONLY thing stopping them from making a fix for 2002 will be lack of complaints.

After all, while I can make justifications for this all day long just like you nay sayers have, at the end of the day they are just that, justifications for the fact that if you bought a car in 2002 you got screwed. Not in a big way mind you, but a little bit. And this is a great opprotunity for Toyota, who repeatedly claims they want to sell cars to teh youth market, to prove that THEY give a **** about what WE want and expect from a car, and moreover from Toyota. Your damn skippy I hold them to a higher standard. They are better than other manufacturers, or at least they used to be, so they need to follow in their own amazing tradition and make this right. They dont HAVE to do it, but they will loose some customers if they don't. I mean think about it for gods sakes, how many thousands of dollars in mods are you going to have to get to bring the 2002 up to teh stock 2000 in the 1/4? Thats just nonsense.

So anyways if the 2002 owners want to rally other owners to their cause how bout you other guys shut up and let them do their thing. If the situation were reversed you would want them to do the same for you. After all, THIS isn't driver error like the mis-shift issue. This is beyond their control and it just plain stinks. Personally I gave up - my lease goes back next week and thats fine by me. But I hope these guys convince Toyota to do the right thing. They don't HAVE to, we aren't ENTITLED to it, but I think those that actually know and care do deserve it. I know if it was my product I would feel bad and make it right if I could possibly afford to.
