I've noticed that a lot of ppl who upgade to 17's say that it's best to go with 215/40/17 as opposed to 215/45/17. Is it mainly because the 40's are closer to the stock diameter? I would imagine though that a 45 would make for a smoother ride and fit just fine. What's the majority vote here?

I'd pick 215/40R17...if I'm gonna vary from stock circumference, I'm gonna go smaller to get better gearing.

i have 215/45's on my 17's and they are great cause they really fill in the fender gap.

Is your celly lowered? If so, what kind of setup do you have?

will the 215/45/17's make my tach go off? i need to know if i have to re-calibrate the odometer and speedometers if i get this size...

It won't affect the tach.

It will affect the speedo and odo, but not so much that I'd try any sort of recalibration. The odo will show fewer miles than you're actually travelling...probably not something you're going to lose sleep over. The speedo will probably just be more accurate now...most read too fast from the factory.

Hi,

I know that 215/45/17 fills the fender gap more, but how about if the car is not dropped.

Would the 215/40/17 be better? Anyone have pictures of either to compare? Thanks,

Here are a couple pics. 215/40-17 The better gearing is worth going for this size. Mine is lowered with Hotchkis springs. I was also considering going to 225/45-17 for more lateral grip, but I'll probably stick with the 215/40's.

hi cbr600drm,

thanks for the picture. Greatly appreciated. however, I am still afraid that the 215/40/17 rim+tires will look too small on a non-dropped celica. Converselyt, I am afraid that the 215/45/17 rim+tire will look too big. I have a WW body kit already.

Anyone have pictures of this setup. I have looked around at pictures of celica setups, but can't find out what are the tire sizes.
i.e. celica random gallery [1] pic3 = he has konig tantrums, but i am unsure about his tire size.

thanks,
