I would like your opinion on the slow starting speed of the auto GTS in normal everyday driving. I just wanted to know if you considered it a problem when trying to drive out into traffic.
Why would I like to know this? Heres why: When I got my car I had no idea how annoying the Auto GTS was for everday driving, but now I wish to do something about it. I would like either to trade my car in or switch in a manual trammission, but the problem is I'm 17 and my parents won't let me. I pay for the car now and would pay for anycost for getting a manual, but they think its not needed, theirfore they won't let me do it.
When I told them about the slow starts they don't belive me, so if you can give you 02 cents on the starts it could help alot.
Thanks,
The Hobbit.

most automatic 4 cylinders are slow of the line. its almost common sense.......a small powered engine + a auto trans = no low end. I work at a toyota dealership and when i get a chance i drive some of the cars and anything with a 4 and auto are slow.
Oh, and by the way i have an auto gts and i regret it a little. but i only payed $16,600 for it so i cant complain, i stole it. But i did notice the the Injen CAI and larger wheels defenitly hurt it more down low but the sound and performance up high is awsome.

ok, i know i was making fun of you in OT for having an auto, but that's a different story all together (i was just playing in there anyways, thats what OT seems to be all about). but anyways, to actually try and help it might be your intake. i've had the injen CAI in mine for a while but lately it seems to be making the car loose a lot of power down low. it bogs horribly especially when its cold and i've even had the car nearly stall and actually roll backwards since it's somehow not getting power. i've cleaned the MAFS and filter, taken it to toyota, and everthing i can think of but nothing has worked. i also had 2 friends that put injen CAI's on and felt a huge loss in low end so went back to stock airbox/short ram and they both said it felt way better. i have a stock GTS airbox on the way and will be putting it in next week since i'm selling the car anyways but i'll let you know if it makes a difference on mine. hope this might be of some help...

I have an auto GT, and I don't have much of a problem pulling into traffic. I know an auto makes it slow off the line, but not to the point of not being able to pull into traffic. I mean, once I hit 3k, the lag is about gone.

You get what you pay for. An issue, if so important, should have been investigated and discovered while at the dealer before the car left the lot with the new owner. The test drive should have told the story. Maybe some talks to auto GTS owners would have helped as well.
I knew what I was getting into with my auto GTS with Sportshift. It serves my needs just fine. Next time tell the salesperson you need to simulate real-life driving and beat up the car during the test drive . Tell them to buckle up tight.
Regardless of your feelings on the auto GTS and its low-end torque, if your parents helped with payments, you don't have a ton to be pissed about.

Based on your wording (in CAPS), it seemed as if they paid for it for a while. Well you should have went for the drive with your mom. Passengers can smell a "dog" almost as well as the driver.

i got my auto gt as a grad gift...i was able to test drive the 5sp gt and my mom thought i would roll backwards if i was on a hill..and i drive stick perfect too! so they opted to get me a auto gt..im happy with the car i just wish it was a 5sp...they had a gts but they thought it was too man of a car for me! hehehehe..
im perfectly fine with the power of the auto gt in traffic..once you get to around 3k it gets going!

i guess if it's stock, it might be annoying. i have an intake, and it sucks horribly under 3000rpm, but it pulls nicely from 3000-4000, so i always rev there for most normal driving. when i have to slam the gas to merge onto the highway on one of those dinky little ramps where you get stuck behind other cars and have to merge in from a stop...yeah it's annoying cuz it doesn't go anywhere as soon as you slam the gas, but a split second later, and it pulls away cleanly, and by the time any cars are behind you, it hits lift and pulls to the speed limit in decent time.
i got an exhaust, and i used to have an AEM pulley, those help it rev a bit quicker. the pulley especially, makes it feel like it pulls harder (torque) cuz it revs so quick (horsepower).
